THANKS! Printed it off and put it into a 3-ring binder. Kinda' wish the folks running the show here would print off a bunch of the "stickys" and put them out in a book. Sooo much information on here!

OK I'm here and in the open! Name is Dave and have been lurking and have taken the plunge into casting my own. Just a couple molds at the present but probably will expand as I go.
Lots of info here has been very helpful in getting started.
Thanks to all that have made this site what it is

My name is Don. I've been lurking here for a while, soaking up useful information. I recently joined to get in on a group buy for a .452 mold. I haven't actually cast any boolits yet, but I plan to attempt my first batch tomorrow. I have about 150# of WW (which I scored for free (even though I tried to pay the guy at the tire shop something for them)). Hopefully I'll get it down and turn out some nice chunks of lead!
Greetings Everyone, [smilie=s:
I registered here at Castboolits a couple of months ago after lurking for awhile. I'm still in the "absorbing info" mode and slowly regaining a lot of forgotten methods in the boolit casting field. I started casting 30 years ago but became inactive about twenty yrs ago and only recently began casting/shooting again. The price of Jword (see I pay attention) projectiles is getting out of hand along with a lot of other things these days.
I find many things have stayed the same, but there is a ton of new info and techniques to be learned. Twenty years ago I shot a lot of lead in pistols and revolvers but never desired to load down and use lead in rifles. Back then my belief was lead just wasn't practical at anything approaching or over 1000fps. Boy, was I wrong. I guess it was a comination of readily available cheap commercial jwords and misinformation in my circle of friends that contributed to this.
Anyway, I'm happily casting again and thanks to this great :cbpour: site am regaining some lost time. But I do have a couple of concerns that may have been discussed here but I haven't found it yet. One is that very often there is a hue and cry about lead in bullets killing condors and other carrion eating animals and the desire to outlaw all lead ammo in the field. Just today in my local paper (Mohave Daily News) there was a prominent article decrying the death of a condor from ingesting lead from prey, which brought about this post. Also, the increasing rarity and cost of our beloved WW. So my question to the group is how likely is our casting lead boolits to become illegal or highly restricted? Going along with that what is on the horizon for a reasonable hobbyist substitute to replace lead in the casting equipment we now have?
I apologize for the length of this post and thank you all for the expertise to be found here.
Regards, Mohavedog (John)
Hi guys, I'm not really lurking. I just discovered this site about a week ago. I haven't done any casting or much shooting in about 12 years because of my kids. I've got the time now and ich. I am starting off with a new Lee classic turrent press. And my old Saeco is in perfect condition not a speck of rust anywhere thanks to a soaking of Break Free before putting it away. My Lee molds and melter are in decent condition and I have cast about 1000 boolits so far.
Pete P;
Welcome to THE place!
It sounds like you are starting to roll. The Lee Classic Turret is an EXCELLENT choice. I have recommended the Lee Turret to new reloaders for years. The Classic is even better!
Keep tuned in and feel free to contribute to the conversation. We listen and we also share whatever tips we come up with or pass along, freely...

Hi Guys. I am one of the lurkers. I joined this forum a while ago because I really like my round ball guns and would like to start casting my own in the not to distant future. I figure this is the place to learn. Once I find a local source for lead I will be a pest. Cheers. dennis
Bushbaby;
Welcome to the "active list"! I have cast considerable amounts of round balls for my muzzle loaders over the years, both pistols and rifles. In fact, when I started to shoot muzzle loaders, you either cast your own or did with out.

I haven't really been lurking, but neither have I posted before. I joined this forum because I could not see myself buying ammo. So Once I learned reloading, I'm looking to extend the skillset. I signed up today for a MiHec H&G #68 4 Cavity Brass 452 200gr SWC.
But the real reason I ordered it, was that I saw the buy was about to close, and everyone was singing MiHec's praises. I thought, if he's that good, I want one. Fortunately I have a Gold Cup that's hungry all the time. Seemed like a good time to throw my hat into the ring.
My former profession was precious metal caster in NYC, so this should be fun. Also as a high school student, after school I cast the lead plates for the advertisements for the local newspaper. Now that's been awhile =)
Libertyrules;
I can only say that you have made an EXCELLENT decision to buy this mould. It should work very well for you in your 1911.
I shoot several thousands of these bullets every year and I an truthfully say, my Mihec moulds are my very favorite bullet moulds (I have seventy or eighty moulds).

That makes me feel really good, Dale. So far, I only reload for my pistols and rifles, but know a lot of people who cast. By any chance do you know in what country Miha lives ?
Libertyrules;
Mihec (Miha Prevec) lives and works in Slovenia (just north of the top of Italy), in Eastern Europe.

I'm Dave and I'm a YAN (Yet Another Lurker).
I'm buying 45ACP FMJ for only about $20/K more than buying lead bullets, so switching to lead doesn't make much sense unless I cast them myself.
OK, I will admit it
I am a registered member and I lurk
I registered so I can search this forum
Any, I mean any, question on reloading
is in here somewhere, more every day
kinda the sum of reloading knowledge.
Back to my lurking with Thanks for the Forum.
Well I just joined after about 2 or 3months of lurking around. I just started casting for my 40 cal and got that working great thanks to this forum and youtube videos on casting and pan lubing boolits. I also learned alot on reloading process of a automatic.
I casted lead sinkers and jigs by the million and reloaded revoler round so I figured with some good research on the web and cross checking what I found on the web I should be able to do this and save a ton of money. Man does my 14 yr old son love to send money down range.
now I am working on 9mm got dies and mound coming in the mail should be here anytime now.
Thank for all the help and Im sure to be asking you guys when i get my 9mm stuff in the mail.
Okay, I lurked for three years until I had a ligit question and thought maybe I could add something. I don't know much about casting yet...actually most of what I know I learned here. I don't have any casting equipment yet but I will. I've loaded for some time but would just buy my boolits. Time has come for me to roll my own!!!
Dan
To all of you new and aspiring bullet casters, FULL SPEED AHEAD! It is the ONLY way to go!
Congratulations on making the move!

Been lurking for years, just getting into cast boolits as some of the milsurp stuff I shoot for can be hard to find bullets for in my neck of the woods.
Also like the idea of a cheap plinking round being able to take game.
Ive been reloading various handgun calibers for about 10 months, first on an RCBS single stage, then a Lyman turret, and recently on a Hornady Progressive. I also reload 12 gauge trap loads on a Lee Load All. I've been gearing up to start casting my own bullets and I have found this website to be an excellent resource. I just picked up some essentials today. A Lee 4-20 melter, 2 cavity tumble lube .356 mold and the tumble lube sizer kit. I also grabbed an ingot mold and a Lee hardness tester (for $40, it's better than nothing). Still working on a source for scrap lead, but I'm planning on melting down a box of .38/.357 double end wad cutters that I bought cheap at a going out of business sale for a nearby gun store thinking they were semi wad cutters. I was probably never going to load them into anything useful, but now I'm going to recycle them into ingots, then into 9mm bullets. The box weighed 10lbs on my bathroom scale, and my Lee hardness tester said they were somewhere between 17 and 15 hardness (it's tricky to use).
