61 now. I started casting in college back in 1978. I've followed this forum for several years now and learned a lot in spite of how many bullets I'd cast. I always approached casting purely from a $ savings aspect so never used any variations in alloys other than wheel weights. Also had never shot a lot of cast in rifles since I wasn't sure they'd work well (expand) with the harder wheel weight alloy at moderate rifle speeds (30-30 for example). I read the "Hunting with Cast" part of the forum regularly for several years and that led me to get molds for several rifles such as the 35 Remington, 30-30, 7.62x39, 8x57, and a so far not so successful attempt to make a deer rifle out of my 460 Weatherby with something lighter than the Lee 500 grain.
As the old saying goes, two heads are better than one and several thousand are even better. This is a great forum for sharing ideas and I finally figured that I should join it when I saw a discussion on different bullets that would work well in the 35 Remington.

Started casting in my 20s because ammo was getting harder to come by and I didn't want to stop shooting. As this was posted quite some time ago I wonder if the age distribution has shifted even more so to the older generation.

Started casting in my late 20's with intent to make a gallery load for my 30-06. Then got into casting for Revolvers cartridges. Now I cast for multiple Rifle rounds as well. I'm Currently a 42yr old. My reloading has slowed down due to the Powder shortage.

Started when i was around 7 or 8, basically press ganged into service for my dad making projectiles and fishing weights. Its been great. I love everything about making your own stuff especially ones my guns like.

This is cool. I’ve often wondered if its just “old” dudes or what? Good to see a nice spread of ages. Knowledge from the grey hairs and enthusiasm from the youngin’s.
I’m 42………holy cow I’m 42!!

Started reloading at 20, just started casting at almost 22

What's scary is ... I took this poll and it seemed like just the other day ...
It has been 7 years ...I've aged seven years and I have no idea where all that time went !
By the way ...move me up into the next age group ... if anyone even cares !
I started reloading in 1967 ...two weeks after starting reloading, I started boolit casting . In 1967 if you wanted a cast boolit ...you couldn't buy them ... you bought a Lyman Mould and recycled those discarded wheel weights from the tire shop ...they would give them to you , just bring a bucket !

I'm 86, and have been casting for decades!

I'm 36 Started casting late last year. Casting for 9mm, 38spl, 357mag, 44spl, 44mag, and hopefully soon 30-06. I have considered getting into casting for a while, just could not justify the investment, and felt I did not know enough. Got started simple with a 2 cavity lee 358-158-RF, and a 2 cavity lee 356-125-2R and a lee pro 4 20lb furnace. Tried traditional lube, tumble lube, and now I am tinkering with powder coating. Got a couple more molds, a couple on the way along with a lead thermometer. Got a couple more molds in my wish list and I keep checking NOE for a couple that I am waiting to come back in stock.

I see that my age group is sort of low in number on the list. I see that Echo and I are in it over 85, 87 for me and still holding. put in for elk bow again this year and have invites to Oklahoma on the red river quail, turkey, pigs, deer and 18 to 20 lb stripers with a second cousin saying he will have me so tired that I won''t be able to turn the crank or lift my arms catching stripers. They call them sand bass up there and they will be running directly.

58 and 2 weeks in to finally casting

59 in a couple months. I started collecting Lead and WW about 15 years ago. Separated pure lead from WW and made ingots. Didn't start actually casting until the last year or so. Also doing PC and adding GC on the 55Gn. Still have 2 5gal buckets of WW to go through yet.
