No talking to your wife, I was commenting on your tag line. The official beginning of the end? Really?
Yes, it's Chaos Theory. By Christmas day, I expect at least 3/4 of the posts will be purple, by New Years Day, the entire internet, and 72 hours after that, Barney will be president, and cable tv will be Don Rickles, all channels, all the time,,,,and,
(oh, the horror of it all)
the mandatory global dress codes will be,,,,
Official JeffinNZ Hunt Club Long Johns,,,,,,,,
Purple long johns? No way. That would be the end of the site if it happened.
I mean, come on, those tights would totally clash with my hat!
btroj, you could always attach sequines to the purple long johns to match your big hat.
They are purple, not pink.....
Thanks Hamish. The lube stuff can be fatiguing. I actually do enjoy shooting for fun sometimes!
The quest goes on, it just isn't always publicized at every step.
I shot for fun a little bit the last two days.....my steel plates had 3/4 inch of ice on them and they looked so cold and lonely.... so I warmed them up via some friction from some 2,000 fps Saeco 316's from the 14 inch contender in 30/30. Made me feel better anyway. Power was out, figuredd it a good time to take some aggression out on some steel. To keep this on track...the lube was MML+5% soap......all the plates out to 250yards would have been dead if they had been deer.
I may just mix some soap into MML today, even if it is a beta version of MML. I will let you know how it works Mike. I have a feeling it will be good.
Cold, windy, and snowing outside. Looks like a good day for some lube making.
On a side note, happy 10 K posts to me. Couldn't have found a better thread for it.
I used some of last summer's high-soap stuff--pre-TnT green stuff--for flux the other night and it started out like most then ended up as a puddle on the lead with nasty-looking black residue.
Maybe part of the beta testing should be using it for flux, so sortamaybe predict whether it will leave a nasty residue in rifle bores. Oh, yeah, it was the SL series! Anyway, I suspect the SL series left nastiness in rifles at higher pressures but was fine in pistols because of the *time of exposure* to the propellant flame.
That's my edjoomated guess and I'm stickin' to it!
I never had residue with the SL series. The residue with TnT was obvious when looking thru the bore or when cleaning, SL series never had that.
Time of exposure to propellant flame doesn't seem to have anything to do with TnT issues, it seems to have more to do with pressure. We think what happens is that under high enough pressure the grease "de-oils". In simple terms the grease breaks down, the oils blown forward down the bore and the soap is left behind as a residue. Handguns don't have the issue as this happens just far enough down the bore that in had guns the bullet is already out of the barrel. Seems that around 25 to 30 K pressure is the point where it begins being an issue.
the lube grump is speaking of is the SL-61.1 with the goo and high soap content.
it did exhibit vertical stringing in rifles, it would purge and throw some spectacular groups then start stringing again.
Oh, I know which lube he meant. I just don't ever remember any fouling issues with that series of lubes. I only had the fouling trouble with soap, oil lubes with no AG or wax.
I keep seeing a picture in my mind of a couple of Hausfrau's, in the aisle at Walmart, ******** and moaning about who's hoarding all the soap when proctor and gamble are running 24/7,,,,,,
I only used 10 bars of Ivory. I realize that is a lifetime supply for some members but I don't think it was too much.
I must admit that I do have a fair bit of oil and grease left not to mention a bunch of beeswax.
Gee, maybe I could just dump it all in one big pot......
you'll regret it...
in 20 years when you run out, and can't duplicate the recipe...
In 20 years I won't care......
Well, think of it, in 20 years we will be coating everything anyway.
