Tell them it is rectum lube, one shot and you rectum, no more B.S. from them.
No matter how long it takes one to read all the posts contained in this thread, it will take infinitely longer to discover a single lube that does it all under all types of conditions (assuming that's still the goal here). The object is to control the amount of fouling while making sure the rate of boolit spin matches the rate of rifling twist which is not an easy task given the two very dissimilar metals. Perhaps that's the reason some old timer way back in my great grandpa's day decided to wrap his boolits in paper. I'm pretty sure, when all is said and done, that one will need to match the viscosity of the lube to one's shooting conditions (temp/velocity/pressure) if the goal it to maintain fine accuracy in rifles. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade but I think it makes more sense to set up 2 or 3 boolit luber/sizers than to dedicate their retirement to discovering a boolit lube that works well for summer prairie dog shooting as well as Saskatchewan whitetail. I have shot very nice groups at a decent varmint hunting rate of fire through an old 1:10" '06 (about 2000fps with aged COWW) during the summer months, while retaining down right amazing muzzle conditions, to discover that 6 months later from a clean barrel I wouldn't point the same rounds at a deer more than 100 yards down range because of the degraded accuracy. Yes, the groups do tighten up significantly after 10-15 fouling rounds and an increase in barrel temperature; however, that level of consistency is just too frustrating for me. I don't know what others have learned in the last few months but, there is more to life than boolit lube.
Nevertheless, I still like the various lithium and/or lithium complex greases blended with various waxes... how's that for a nebulous recipe?
Vote the Progressives out of power next year!

Good lube formulas that exist already can have as much as a 90-degree operating range using conventional components. It shouldn't take much to extend that with some modern synthetics, but I personally have other requirements to meet as well. For one thing, two Saturdays ago it was 23F at first light. Today it was rainy and 73 at first light. Right now it's nearly 80. Not going hunting with one kind of ammo in this, but that critical first shot MIGHT be a flyer depending on the bore condition at the time, how it was cleaned, if it was cleaned, and what the last shot through it was.
SO, I want a lube that will tolerate 160F without weeping oils, one that won't cause a flyer if the bore is cleaned and pre-treated with x oil/lube/whatever, and I want to be able to shoot in 20-110 F weather, regardless of humidity.
Is that too much to ask?
It seems it is, we have lubes that will tolerate 200F without leaching oil, not fling the first shot, and will shoot in the cold just as well as the heat, BUT they foul things up badly in just a few rounds in any weather. Groups were never all that great, either. The trick here is to discover why and fix it, part of which we've done. The why is known, the fix is not, as it is dependent on finding a substance that may not yet exist.

Mike seems to have found a single lube for all his needs so it IS possible.
Gear and I need a lube that does better in higher temps than Mike sees very much. Like Gear I see a wide swing of temps during hunting season. I have hunted in 70 degree weather and 10 degree weather, both for deer on same piece of property.
You also fail to understand that sometimes it isn't about the end result but rather it is about the quest itself. It is about learning what works and why. It is about trying something different. It is about looking for something better. Sometimes it is about tinkering.
Aren't most of us involved in casting because we have an inherent need to tinker? The quest is about that natural desire and the need to just do more
The quest is hardly about JUST finding a lube, it is about so much more than that. Those who don't understand that probably aren't very interested in the quest anyway.
That sum it up pretty well Gear?
Gear,
Thank you for the synopsis. Good luck with your quest.

1. My conditions are a bit "easier" than what you guys want. Coldest I hunt is about 0 degrees and the warmest I have ever deer hunted with a noise maker was about 75-80deg.
2. I have found at least 4 lubes that are simply variations of the same basic stuff that work for my needs. If I had to pick a clear "winner" and use just that one lube until they plant my **** into the dirt it would be MML+5% ivory, luckily I do not HAVE to make that choice. Is it perfect? NO but the slight difference it may have in actual boolit impact between 0deg and 93 deg is not enough to concern myself with and not enough to cause a miss on anything larger than a chipmunk. It can also be shot all day, put away and then pulled out weeks later with minor impact difference on shot #1. I do not "clean" my bores for a damn good reason...that is a variable that is not needed to be thrown into the mix in my opinion.
3. Lube will not help you unless you have the rest of the puzzle assembled first.
4. Cast shooting is not that _______ hard, but you have to do the work, it is very obvious to me when someone is not really trying. When you send said feller the answer to the riddle and then hear NOTHING he is not even making the attempt....at that point I tend to give up on said individual.
Mike, that may well be the smartest thing you have ever said.
I don't know about "est", but it's up there.
I'd like to be relatively "finished" with lube at some point soon, in fact tried hard to be finished this past summer. I have put off bulk-loading any of my stock-up ammo because every time I think I have something finalized, something goes wrong. At some point I'm going to just have to say ---- it, fill one of my sizers up, and lube pistol boolits. It's sad that I doubt I have more than a box of cartridges loaded for any of my guns, some of them NONE. I'm going to be cranking press handles for a solid year when I get this done. Maybe I should have spent more time with Satan's Lube this summer instead of TnT, I dunno. At least I learned a BUNCH about TnT because I stuck with it long enough and shot it in enough things to learn the ins and outs of it, and got the side-effect of learnin' me about some other general things about boolit lube.
Anyway, exciting things are on the horizon, I got this green goo that doesn't melt or freeze, it's like thick chassis grease and contains no thickener to make it so. Might have solved the grease issue, we'll see.

Gear, you won't be done. Ever. This is in your blood, it is your nature.
Think of the empty void in your life if you stop the quest. What would you do with all the free time?
Your wife would tire of spending time with you. Your guns will get dirty from all the shooting. The house doesn't really need finishing anyway.
Dang it, I forgot the purple thing...... Must be Hamish's fault....
No purple required. I hate it when you're right, Brad.
Gear
Most people do......
I have actually found the quest to be both fascinating and frustrating. I have enjoyed it and loathed it at the same time.
The mental stimulation is balanced with the monotony of hand lubing hundred of bullets. The excitement of seeing how a lube does is offset by the boredom that is shooting numerous groups. Yes, I hate group shooting.
This entire thing has taught me much about how lubes work for us. I have grown accustomed to going into auto part stores. I have made some friends on the board and learned to wear a funny hat.
I will miss the quest when it is done. Sounds odd but a part of me will truly miss it. Most of me will just be happy to know I can fill my sizer and get back to shooting for fun.
At some point every lube alchemist simply reaches the point where he needs to throw his arms into the air and yell .....CLOSE ENOUGH.....just to save his sanity. Some of the more sadistic types will need to do this more than once before it "STICKS"
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU  Good Luck
But then I would just end up playing with copper in my alloy.........
Everyone needs a reason to get out of bed in the morning.
My wife just laughs at me for discussing lubrication with strangers online.......
Just wait til the big hats get involved in copper alloys.......
Besides Mike, don't you miss trolling?
