Short Range Sil with Boolits in the RGS77
Well,,,, Guys I shot 200 meter Silhouette today with CAST BOOLITS! I used my original loads with 311299's from my first Lyman mould. These boolits came out a little small with .297 noses and .309 bases, and I sized them in a .309 die. Used 21 gr of 5744.
I hit 2 rams at 200M shot those first, and I should have warmed up more. 7 chickens at 50M shot 2nd, 8 pigs at 100M 3rd, and 4 turkeys at 150M last.
Total 21 hits and these were full sized targets. Let me tell you what,,, these 200 gr boolits knock a 55 lb ram down with autihority! One Ram I hit right dead center in the shoulder and it went end over end a few times before settling. Very Satisfying !!! Chickens went flying !
These rounds also fed off my polymer mags very well.
Next month I will shoot a new batch of 311299's from my NOE mould which drops them at .2997/ 311, and I expect great things push thru sizing with Keith's (the perfessor) new die adapter and a .310 die.
I was unable to shoot paper with these loads today but all of the shooting I did yeilded range card readings of +1.5, +1.5, +2, and +4 moa over the established 200 yard zero for my standard J load. In other words there are very little changes to be made to the scope between the two loads which are completely different.
Had a great time and the RGS77 scored big again.:Fire:
