Nice photo of your GP100 44. I bought my shortly after the first of the year. I sent it back to Ruger for a thorough inspection based on all the complaints that I read about oversized chamber throats and for thread choke from collapse of barrel shank from over torquing. I also wasn't happy with the gap underneath the front sight. My gun came from the factory with a very sharp edge around the trigger guard. When it arrived at my FFLs shop we noticed dried blood splattered around the cylinder and frame. This cleaned up with some scrubbing with cold water and a complete wipe down with Ballistol. I am hoping to get it back in a couple of weeks with a "clean bill" of health.
I am sure glad that I am not inclined to buy one.
I'll wait for the 5" version to hit the market.....I have a bulldog so I can't really justify a 3" ....5" though....there is a working gun.
There's not much that can be done to reduce size given the size of the cylinder required to accept five rounds of 44 Special. Are you saying you would prefer something with a shorter barrel?
I wouldn't mind some slight weight reduction but I can't see the gun really getting smaller.

They received mine last Friday but other than an email saying they had it I have heard nothing.
There is a good bit of difference in the size of this gun and the size of the Charter Bulldog. I understand that it will shoot heavier loads...but, all I want is a gun that will shoot 200gr bullets at 1000fps, for my self defense...my Charter does that with no issue, is smaller framed and weighs 3/4 of a lb less than the GP100.
After talking to the Ruger guys at the show I was reassured that this gun is in testing in CA and will be added to the "List."
They should be available here in the next month or so.
I have to tell you that after handling the gun at the show I was impressed as to just how close it is to my S&W696 The gun feels virtually identical to my S&W 696, and the DA Trigger pull on the gun at the show was Excellent as was the SA Pull. Fit and finish on the gun was also excellent and the gun feels good in your hand.
I was also told that they have received a few guns back, and are aware of the chamber problem and are trying to figure out how and why it happened. As we all know they make other .44 Special Revolvers and so this shouldn't be an ongoing problem and is isolated to a few guns only.
It should be noted that only one chambering reamer that is .001-2 larger could be responsible for all this hoopla, and was probably already changed out a month ago.
After getting to handle one of these guns I know Ruger has another winner. Also there was a lot of interest in the gun and everytime I sat the thing down someone grabbed it and I was being over run with people while I was trying to talk to Mark.
There will invariably be teething problems with any new product, and that's why you don't generally want to buy the first units of a new product that is released, just so you can have the first one. There is always a learning curve and I can tell you from my own personal experience with marketing products that no one is exempt. That is simply because you have to think of, and anticipate "everything" before you make the product and nobody and no company is capable of doing that.
I can assure you that with respect to my Hand Presses that the ones I am assembling right now go together a lot easier than the previous batches did and as a result are a better product. This is due to things I learned on the first batch. That's not to say the first ones weren't as good, they were just harder to make that way. Also since I assemble every single one,,, no bad ones get out the door. Big companies can't operate that way because they can't 100% inspect every single part they make or they wouldn't be in business for long.
If someone could anticipate everything there would be no need them to make a product,,, They could just go buy a Lottery Ticket and never have to work again.

I'm still savin'. I gotta have one. :coffeecom
W.R.Buchanan,
I appreciate your update on the GP100 44 problems.
Thanks here, too, Randy. I am TRYING to resist this one, but feel myself weakening daily! The .44 Spec. is one of, if not THE best personal defense rounds ever, and a gun that size (more or less K-frame size) is MUCH more pleasant to tote than the 6-shotters. I am weakening by the moment! Of course, I have to factor in at least one good holster, and probably two - one for field and one for carry.
Now that bending over to pick up brass is more of a problem than it once was, I tend to lean toward revolvers more and more. This gittin' old ain't for sissies!
My next little batch of cast bullets has arrived from GT Bullets. I ordered another batch of the 220gr RN LHP that shot so well in the original gun along with a 255gr Keith-style LHP and a 255gr RN LHP. I ordered these all sized .432 to better fit my replacement gun's throats.
I loaded the Keithers with 4.6gr of Titegroup. The 255 RN are loaded with 7.3gr of Unique and 220's are loaded with 11.5gr of Blue Dot.
If I can find some time I'll shoot these tomorrow to see if anything shows promise.

Pretty fierce lookin' hollowpoints! Do you have a weblink for GP bullets? I like the 255s.
Thank you,
