where to buy a barrel?
Ive been searching long and far for a barrel for my browning model 71 remake to 50 cal. I havnt had any luck unless i want to wait 4-6 months for a barrel maker to make me one..
building a short barreled rifle.
Is there someplace that I can find an octagon barrel blank which is close to a win 86 normal width octagon barrel sized for .510" with a twist around 1-15 and i will rent the chamber reamers and build the barrel myself.
any ideas?

Green Mountain, perhaps.

Might try Jim Carpenter, 208-582-2091. He does custom barrels at a good price. Douglas may do 50 cal but I don't think they do octagon.

If you go on YouTube to LeverGuns50 channel, he goes in depth about where he has gotten his various rifles redone.
They are all '86's I think, but I'll bet it'll get you on the right track.

I’ve had very good luck with Green Mountain’s pre-profiled octagon barrels with two heavy ones on original 1885 high walls and one of their lighter ones, designed for lever guns, chambered in 25-20 for a smooth side low wall. I haven’t bought one from them for several years, but all reports I’ve heard have been good.

Hey Froggie,,Had a tough time finding the correct barrel, even at green mtn, my gunsmith just texted and found a douglas barrel, so guess we are on the way now.

That is good news !
Waiting for a project to move along can get hard on the mind.
Was going to take ours out to the local range this AM but it rained until 11:30 so maybe another day.
