Hello fellas, for anybody that can actually use their alloy calculator, how much 95\5 solder would I use to pure lead, to make 20:1 alloy?
I realize that the Antimony will add a little hardness, but I’m trying to make a good alloy for my 9mm 125grn HPs, and have them mushroom nicely. Thanks guys!
I hear ya. I been confused many times. So much so I now wont use anything by 50/50 or pure lead and tin.
Its like Alchemy to me. Needlessly confusing.

9 lbs. pure lead and 0.5 lbs. of your 95/5 solder. Of course, you will have a minute amount of whatever the "5" is in your solder, but it will essentially be 20:1 alloy.

95% Lead 5% Antimony will make that 20-1 not 20-1. find some 50-50 solder and go that route
The calculator lists 3 95/5 lead free solder, they have .25 copper, or .25 silver, or .25 antimony.
It lists 20/1 as 4.76% tin and 95.2 lead
1 pound of 95/5 and 19 pounds of pure lead comes out to 4.75% tin and 95.0% lead The missing .25% is one of the listed metals above.
I make a lot of 20/1.
I heard that 20:1 would be a good alloy for hollow point expansion. Will I be able to push the 9mms to 1050-1100fps without problems? Maybe the 5% antimony in the 95/5 would help strengthen it? I understand that it WILL harden it, but also make it brittle, but hopefully in this small amount it won’t make the petals break apart.
I don’t have a calculator. Without getting into math if the 95% is tin, then 19 Lb lead would be close enough.
How do you know it's antimony? Anyway if you look at what I posted it's only .25% after mixing. I pushed 45 LC load hard with powder coated boolits and never had any leading.Quote:

In my own testing. 1200 is magic for a HP and expansion. Of coarse a large HP opens a bit sooner a nd a smaller a bit slower. But 1200is my velocity for 20:1.

95/5 Tin/Antimony - For use in air conditioning, refrigeration, and high-temperature applications. It has high strength and a matte finish, and melts and flows like 50/50 tin/lead solder.
ITs pretty much all tin so I would treat it as such. DOnt over think alloy & bhn.
For LHP, I like 20-1 with larger HP under 1000fps & 25-1 with smaller cup points 1050-1200fps. When going over 1200fps I like 20-1 in smaller cup points.
