32-20 trim woes or Why are my cases not growing?

OK, here's one I'd like to see answered. I have about 300 32-20 cases. Some Star, some Remington, some WW and some UMC. Any way, I load these rather warm..upwords of 1700 fps with the Lyman 311316. After several loadings, I figured I'd trim some and bought a Redding trim die and shell holder. No Joy! The cases are too short by a couple of thousandths. So, I dou around and found my Lee case trimmer chuck in the drill or spin by hand thingy. Guess what, the dang cases are too short again. Hmmm, are they making 32-20 cases too short or did the trimmer makers just "go long"? Inquireing minds want to know.

I have posted this before, I find my 32WCF brass SHRINKS, and unevenly at that. I don't know why this is. I sure seems to happen though. Do you have access to an adjustable trimmer, ie- Forster, etc? I use one to trim about .005 under the shortest case I have. Works for me.

This is probably heresy, but I don't trim 32-20 cases and enjoy excellent accuracy to boot. I know, i've read Ken Waters and all the touble every one has with this caliber, but I found another way. I shoot SR 4759 ( not 4756 ) and crimp with a CH taper crimp die. The bullet is the Lyman 311008 seated to about the top of the front band sized 0.313" out of wheelweights. Works very good in Savage and Marlin rifles plus is excellent in the Ruger Buckeye.

Yup, I've got an RCBS trimmer with all of the pilots etc. I just wanted something different. (One can never have too much reloading equipment you know) Any way, I guess that's gonna have to be the way I handle it.

How does 4759 meter? I use a progressive press (Hornady) so equal length cases is a real must.

I throw my charges with a RCBS Little Dandy measure and rotor, sometimes hard to turn and cut a grain, but the results I get speak for theirself. What is important with SR 4759 is the crimp.

In revolvers, the R-P and W-W cases seem to lengthen unevenly for me, and they get a medium crimp. The limited use I've given to the Starline cases in the Marlin 94CCL x 32-20 show little "growth", and the case mouths are noticeably thicker. It's all a mystery to me--rather than try to figure out the why's, I just trim when needed and try not to look too deeply into motives.
