I have some old .30 cal copper checks of un-known manufacture. When sizing the bullets, these checks do not crimp on like the Lyman I am used to using....I can pull them off the base using my finger nail. Is there any issues I should be concerned with when using these checks? Can they fall off the base before firing? I really do not want to glue each check on. Thanks for you input.
I don't think it will be an issue if every check falls off the same distance from the muzzle. Try them for groups.
I like tight checks that never come off.

If you keep the base of the boolit in the case neck you should be fine. Your accuracy might not be as good as it would be with crimp on checks due to differences when/if the check separates from the boolit after shooting them.

Thanks for the input. I was concerned that the check could fall off the base while the ammo is in storage and the check would lodge in the bore when fired.
If you seat them below the case neck, that's a potential risk. Those are the old style Lyman/Ideal checks. Current Lyman checks are Hornady checks. They crimp on.
These loose checks can come and fall into the case if the boolit is seated below the neck. They will come off after firing and will spin off to the side. I have a 30cal hole in a plexiglass storm window to prove it. The check went through the screen and the 1/8 inch plexiglass which was about 15 feet away and 5 feet to the left of my line of fire.

I've heard of several chronies being killed by them.
When I seat the bullets (185 grain Lee C312 molds then sized to .309 for my 30-06) the base may sit at or just below the neck...I may want to consider glueing them on or maybe selling them.:(
Sounds like a good paper patch project coming up.
