If shooting just Pyrodex you will experience the Mother of all hang fires on almost every shot. Evan with 4F in the pan the Pyrodex will ignite slowly. There is a thread going on right now about using a black powder booster charge behind the substitute to help ignition.
Just buy some real black powder.
Just say NO to Pyrodex. Real black only for a flinter
I still have a couple cans of Pyro left from before T7 was introduced. Gonna burn it in my inline for practice just to be rid of it. My caplocks ignite T7 just fine and with good accuracy, see no reason why a flinter wouldn't do so.
The simple process is to drop 4 - 5 grs. of REAL black powder down the bore, followed by whatever Pyrodex charge you want. Prime with REAL black powder and shoot. ANYONE, who tells you that you can shoot a flinchlock with substitute powders and NOT use REAL black powder is sadly mistaken.
THAT'S why you don't find videos of people shooting Pyrodex in flinters!
gotcha! guess that question is put to rest?
pyrodex is the rusty 1985 cryslar K-car of the blackpowder world
it may or may not run, but either way, it’s not gonna be fun nor pretty

Friends dont let friends shoot pyrodex.
I remember a shoot where a guy had a shooooooo bang. Turned out he was using Pyrodex
.
That lot of people were correct - use Holy Black.
I use FFFg in my .50 rocklock for both priming & main charges w/o issue one.
No disrespect to anyone, but real BP has not been in stock anywhere around here for at least 25 years. Even back then only one place carried it. I understand that you can get it shipped to you paying shipping and hazmat fees. For many of us who shoot front stuffers but aren't dedicated enthusiasts making a sub work is just the better way to go. Now, if Pyrodex was the only sub available I would grimace and pay shipping and hazmat for BP. Fortunately T7 works just fine for my purposes so I'll stick with it until something better comes along.
I have to agree with FergusonTO35,
I did try Pyrodex back when I first started shooting front loaders, but didn't like it.
Triple Seven has been my go to powder for years, but my rifles are percussion.
However, I have been shooting Black MZ in my Cartridge Conversions.

Use a mortar and pestle and crumble it up for the pan and have a container of it for the first 4-5 grains of other. But don’t get in a battle.
