At this site http://www.gmdr.com/lever/pistolpowi.htm there is a body of data that seems to be well done. It is for light loads in large rifle cartridges.

The go to powder is W231/HP-38, followed by Green Dot and Blue Dot. The conclusions reached seem to make sense to me, however I am quite new to this light load business.
Curious to hear anyone's comments on this body of work.

I haven't tried those powders but Unique has worked very well for me in 45-70. Somebody will link the threads pretty soon I'm sure but we've had quite a few discussions about it.
In My findings in the 30/06 308 32 spl and 35 rem bullseye in the 5-7 gr range with normal weight for caliber bullets is awful hard to beat for speeds in the 900-1100 fps range . I've tried w231 didn't get the accuracy I did with BE .
That site is a good reference and you won't go wrong following its recommendations.
I have used Bullseye for reduced in everything from the .32 ACP to the .458 Winchester.
12 grains of Bullseye with #375449 in the .375 H&H works particularly well and approximates .38-55 performance.
I used 14 grains with #457191 in the .458 and it approximates .45-90
In my 30/30 with 165's best accuracy for those speeds was obtained with Red Dot which wasn't recommended.
I would second the motion on Red Dot. Lacking specific data for Red Dot you can use the same charge weight recommended in other sources for Bullseye or 700X and not get into any trouble.Quote:

I will echo previous posters as to using Bullseye for light loads in large cases. It works great in my 30-30 and a friend is using Red Dot (which IMO is BE made into large flakes) in his 45-70 for light loads.
PS.Checked my chrono data. This should give you an idea of the ballistic uniformity of BE in large cases.The data from these two 30-30 loads are 10 shot strings. 5.0/BE/Lyman 311410(130 gr)/1140 fps/E.S.19/ S.D.5
7.0/BE/Lee 155-312-2r/1272 fps/E.S.22/S.D. 6
