NEKVT replied to a thread What model 1899 is this? in Leverguns
Over on the SavageShooters forum the Model F is described as a Saddle Ring Carbine but if -F was also available in rifle length in 1907 that would negate that description. There's only a "2" on the front of the receiver and I saw the model...

I have tried a few times but haven't found a match to a model designation. I believe the serial# 75XXX puts manufacture at 1908. It is a takedown with 22" round barrel, straight butt stock with crescent plate, and chambered in 303 Savage. It had...

Great thread and rifle! Somehow I missed this when in progress. I have an 1898 Krag Sporter with a new Criterion barrel and kept the original stock but thinned out the grip somewhat and added a few coats of thinned TruOil over the original linseed....

Easier to match a bullet designed for a rifle to a rifle and in .35 it's hard to beat the RCBS-200 FN or the Lee equivalent. I use the RCBS for .35Rem and 356Win and also shooting it out of my Marlin 1894C.

NEKVT replied to a thread So did I do alright or no? in Leverguns
Another vote for not refinishing it. That's in great original condition for a 1955. I have a birth year 1954 in 32 Special that's all original but not that nice and I'm not touching the finish on wood or metal and love it for what it is. Haven't...

NEKVT replied to a thread Road Trip in Our Town
Nice firearms related trip. If you ever get up to the Northeast check out the Springfield Armory National Historic Site in MA. On Trip Advisor there's almost 300 reviews and many, many more pictures there that better represent what it is than on...

NEKVT replied to a thread Hunting snacks in Hunting with CB's
You'll find two customary snacks in my pack during deer season - a bag of a simple trail mix consisting of peanuts (unsalted don't want any rusty fingerprints on my rifles), raisins and chocolate chips and some brownies. Not just any brownies but...
