The 16" barrel would be a deal breaker for me. My Marlin .357 has an 18" barrel and it is too short. Have to wear ear plugs when hunting.

Yep, tried that. Keep a good watch on your middle finger on your shooting hand. I used to shoot 320 grain boolits from my .44 magnum 4" barreled Ruger Redhawk. The gun started as a 7 1/2" barrel but I paid a good gunsmith to cut it back and...

I have been experimenting with cast boolits in a couple of single shot rifles. The one I have been giving most attention to is a Henry single shot in .357 MAX. But I also have a single shot Ruger #3 that started out as a .45-70. I had it...

If it were me I would try to find a 71 in either 450 Alaskan or 50 Alaskan and try shooting it. I have not tried the 50 Alaskan but I did fire Bud Leibing's 450 Alaskan in Palmer, AK. It bent my nose over almost til it bled. It was my thumb that...

I have a Henry single shot. It's not a .45-70. It's a .357 MAX rechambered from a .357 Mag. It's a beautiful rifle. Henry produces good wood and a good finish. Two things: 1. The trigger needed work. Don't put a weaker hammer spring in it....

If the ingots came from a commercial ingot mould - you mentioned a Lee mould - try this: Stack them one face up and next face down. They use up less room that way. The angled sides fit together. Start each layer opposite the one below so wide...

The OP did not specify whether the .44 cartridge was to be used in a handgun or a rifle. I think that would make a big difference in powder selection. It does for me with te .357 Magnum.

Yes. I have been working with VV N110 in my Marlin 1894C levergun in.357 Magnum. I have had trouble with the speherical powders like W296 and H-110 being hard to ignite. They seem to need small rifle magnum powders. N110 is a cut powder and...

Thanks, all, After visiting the JES website I decided the best way to contact him was snail mail so I wrote him a letter. He doesn't give an email address and says to call, leave a message, and he'll call back. For those who have dealt with him...

Another who agrees about Gorilla glue. I hate the stuff for wood. Won't use it. They have a new clear Gorilla glue out but haven't tried it. If you are gluing two pieeces of wood togetther - a break or a miter - whatever - plain white Emers will...

After pulling boolits on the loads I put together using my mendacious digital scale I sat down yesterday to try my new Ohaus scale. Memories came back to me about the RCBS 1010 I once had. Drop a charge that's a bit light and trickle in a bit more...

Whatever rifle you choose you would do well, like has been said, to find loads for it first. My Marlin 1894C did not like many boolits. Seems they would catch on the edge of the chamber nearest the ejection port. The rifle has a sharp edge there....

After visiting JES reboring I see that the $250 price is for a three groove barrel. Four grooves are more. Is there any trouble with three? I remember some '03 Springfields were built with two groove barrels. Anyone have any experience? Jim
