My cutoff point for pewter is $10 a pound or half of what new tin sells for (last I looked). Thus far in our searches the most I've paid has been $6.35/lb and the cheapest $2.25/lb. All depends on what we come across. If it's marked "pewter"...

Dunross replied to a thread Cicadas in Our Town
I've always thought it odd the way cicadas swarm in some areas, but not others. We have at least one species here in Florida, but they simply don't behave the way they do further north. What we do get - twice a year - is lovebugs. They don't...

I park under a sycamore tree at home. I don't know if that seed fluff would plug my heater core, but it sure does a number on cabin air filters! Come my next oil change I'll have my mechanic change it out. Made an immediately noticeable...

Humans cannot digest chewing gum either and a mighty lot of people over the years have swallowed what they were chewing. Never heard of anyone dying of it. I'd have to see it in action before I believed it,

Rained just enough last night that I could see it had happened, but not enough to lay the dust. Still, it is June now so the hurricane season has officially started. Maybe this week some time. Probably about the time I want to be outside...

Mighty dry in North Florida too. My pines are dropping needles like crazy right now. Sure hoping we get some rain this week. Supposed to be a good chance today. We'll see.

Holland Boone polished pewter is all over the net if you search on it. Does it have some heft to it? Will it bend at all? Generally speaking the faux-pewter I've found doesn't have much weight for its size and is too stiff to warp or bend. ...

Another flea market today. Picked up five pounds, ten ounces for $31 or about $5.54 a pound. All unremarkable common stuff so except for one finger looped candle holder with a glass chimney going into the "emergency supplies" most of it will go...

Except for the largest rifle cartridges several thousand pieces of brass don't take up all that much space. If it's brass and reloadable I pick it up! With a new to me caliber I start feeling OK when I hit about 500 reloadable cases. That's...

Yours is a good price. I scrounge pewter myself and $10 a pound is my cutoff as to whether a given piece is worth buying or not. You've already melted it into convenient ingots. Sure beats $20 a pound for new metal!

I have a snapper that crosses my property every now and again. About a foot in diameter or thereabouts. Fortunately my dog has enough sense not to get her nose too close! We just nod at each other then go our separate ways.

I have the 313492 mold, but have not yet cast with it. The man I bought it from years ago said he'd shot a lot of them from 32Long revolvers and that so long as I didn't try to hotrod them they'd perform well for me. Being as it's a wadcutter I...

We park under trees at home (evergreen oaks are the worst) so detritus tends to accumulate. I've had my daughter's changed twice, just had my wife's changed, and last weekend decided I ought to change the one in my truck. Volume of air coming...

Flea markets are the way to go in my area. Five pounds, fourteen ounces for $35 or a bit shy of $6.00 a pound. Only one small candle holder with a fingerloop will go on the shelf so about 5.25lbs to go into the stash.

Ingots cast in angle-iron molds look really space efficient so I'd like to cast mine like that, but I don't have a welder to fabricate my own. Does anyone sell them? I'm looking for nominally one pound ingots. Thanks.

I have a buddy who is somewhat obsessed with those chamber adapters, but I'm more of a mind to go with lighter bullets and downloading as you suggest. I'm not likely to carry a 32acp or 32S&W while toting a 30-30 or 308, but I can use light 32...

One of the very few virtues of growing older is that I am no longer forced to work on my cars for being too poor to afford a real mechanic. I have never bought a new car. Just bad economics there. The newest I ever bought is my current truck (a...
