    Lots of ordinary BSA s of that era have what would now be called medium fancy grade wood.....seems they were mainly concerned in using hard dense wood with a good grain for structural durability.

    You havent mentioned what make it is.....Greener rifles generally will take a 32/20 case without any alteration....these are the first delivery 1908 rifles......the second delivery were all BSA s,and will need the rim recess deepened a few...

    I have culled all the less than perfect bore milsurps from my collection......an easy way to rationalize moving on pieces that took a lot of time to find.......fortunately , collectors pay big bucks now and dont care about bore condition .

    Be aware that 316 on 316 is just waiting to seize without any provocation.....and working at 350C in a dry environment would be ideal for seizure......a 400 series chrome stainless might be OK for one of the components.
