The gun is in your head so stay with what you want. I would stick to your budget and configuration though (unless you want 2 that is). I've got a SS 4 5/8" Bisley version and my shooting partner has an early blued 5.5" version. Having a lot of...

DHDeal replied to a thread Aluminum mould prep in Cast Boolits
The only aluminum molds I have are Accurate Molds so not exactly apples to apples. Having had over 10 of them, I've learned to clean them real well and start casting. I will run them through my ultrasonic with real hot water, a quick squirt of Dawn,...

I've noticed folks get to the final destination different ways. The OCD's will stand them up in rows looking for a perfect coat (I'm in that group). Some dump on a screen for high volume and report the minute area that stuck to the screen doesn't...

Have you tried to put them back in the oven for a second bake. Worst thing that will happen is you spend $1.07 for the electricity and waste 26 minutes. Run them through the sizer with a light coat of lube and see if you're still getting the PC...

"and pre-heat the oven to 275 degrees and bake for 15 minutes" may be your problem. I always get my oven up to 400 (stabilized at 400 that is) and bake for 30 minutes. The 30 minutes works out to be PC melted on the surface and then 20 minutes...

Everyone has a slightly different way depending on experience and available tools. Heat and some sort of non-aggressive scraper is a central theme. I use a carpenters pencil as my scraper. A good way to keep a brass mold (wonderful things) clean...

He used to post on here. Red River Rick I believe? I've bought mold handles from him before but it's been a while.

The 45-110 (or more properly 45 2 7/8") is of course 2.875". As was mentioned, BACO stretches brass (or did) but from 2.1" to 2.88" is an awful long way especially with WW brass. I have hundreds of 45-2.1" brass and WW is the thinnest of the 3...

I do use my ultrasonic to clean my new molds. I only do it when they are new right before I start heat cycling them. I find that it gives them a really clean surface for that first casting session. I don't use the ultrasonic more than that first...

DHDeal replied to a thread Changing lube in Casting Equipment
The first time I cleaned up an old LAM, I boiled the old lube out. It was messy but wiped it off with paper towels as soon as I pulled it out of the water and it did a good job. If I were to do it again, I'd use my heat gun.
