You have to get the metal up to about 650 to get the solder to melt. Just apply the heat evenly around the sight base. You don't have to get it red hot or anything. It is just that the barrel and base absorbed heat so it takes a little while...

It doesn't take much to get the soldered sight base loose. Just use a propane or Mapp gas torch and heat the ring that wraps around the barrel. I clamp the barrel in a vise , heat the band and use a pair of pliers to rotate it. After heating it...

Then I would suspect that some of the problems are in the nipple. If it is mushed over a little bit , that can cause misfiring. If the hole is worn too big , it can cause the hammer to blow back when fired. I had one lock that the spring felt...

The best option is just to buy a new spring. You can take the old spring and heat it up , bend it open up a little more , and then re temper it. But retempering a spring is not as easy as it sounds. If you don't heat it properly , you can damage...

You are correct Gtek. The sights sit so high above the barrel. That makes the side to side change when rotating the sight base sensitive. Moving the sight base say 1/32 of an inch at the barrel , will move the actual sight blade maybe almost a...

I have widened the rear sight groove to correct minor adjustments. But that is mostly done on my Fixed Sight pistols. But I also have widened the groove just to make the front sight more visable. The grooving on your rifle will not cause...

The front sight is moved in the Opposite direction to where you want the bullet to go. IE. If it is shooting to the right , and you want the bullet to go left more. You move the front sight to the right. The rear sight is moved the direction you...

I got my globe front sight directly from Lyman. I don't have any left for the TC's but have one more that is going to be put on a Lyman GPR kit that I am going to build for long range shooting attempts.

I would give a great deal to have any time at all with my mother, father, stepfather or only brother, all gone. My new mother-in-law is all I have, and she is being taken to the cleaners by my sister-in-law, and I am helping Mom as much as I can. My...

I had an SKS with the same problem. I took out the Pin that holds the front sight base to the barrel. I then rotated the front sight base to the right. My sight base was soldered in place also. So I heated it up to make it break loose. Once the...

The weight still might be an issue , because the machine was designed for 6 lb. Split up between Two Drums. I don't know if overloading one drum really would effect the belt , but it might cause more resistance on the drive rollers. My HF is a...

When I installed a peep sight on Muzzleloaders , I usually installed a Globe front sight. It just seemed to work better than a taller blade front sight.

This isn't totally related to what was asked about in the post. I have Proof Tested many barrels. I progressively increase the load to reach my Max load. On several I loaded them with a double max load for that gun as recommended by the...

Well so far your test showed that the corned powder density makes a difference in the velocity. But like you said. If the FPS is too fast for your load , just back it down a bit.
