I won't guess on the ratio, but my recent experience is they are either steel or lead, with a few something else. The stick-on weights with raised letters aren't steel but something much harder than lead (probably zinc?).

oley55 replied to a thread Moulds and size? in Casting Equipment
The .001" over is for the groove diameter of the barrel, not revolver throats. Going .001" over the throat size does nothing for you as the throats will size your bullets back down to the .358".

I am still a newbie to casting, but if casting pure lead isn't the answer to "fill-out" issues just a matter of higher heat? I was/am of the impression our reasons for casting at lower temps was primarily to prevent the tin and antimony from...

I have a small tire shop which charges me $25 for a full 5 (plus a little) gal bucket which will generally get me 55 pounds of unprocessed WW. Lifting a full bucket is nigh impossible and very likely to fail. I always take 2-3 buckets, a flat...

Charlie, I have a couple revolvers whose chambers and bore are very nearly the same as well. For the 'softer' alloy, would a 50/50 mix of coww and soww get me into the softer range for better bullet obturation/seal?

seems like a lot of putzing around to find that special load that just clears the barrel but doesn't deform the boolit when it stops in whatever media, (and for sure the sand suggested media seems questionable). I know I putzed around finding...

Sounding hopeful. The oversized pilot retention hole was/is not hugely oversized, but when the set screw is tightened down you will notice the wobble when the pilot enters the neck case. Did you trim any cases yet?

I don't know where to find the bhn conversion for 4H, but gotta think you are in the 32-34 BHN range. Foundry lead comes in at 34 BHN I think. Just playing with this calculator 10:1 (10 soft to 1 foundry) will give you an 11 BHN. Just an idea of...
