Thanks for that explanation, MostlyLeverGuns. My set was found at a Gun Show in a crumbling paper box with no instructions, so I had no clue as to what all the extra adjusters were for. The .22-3000 R-2 was never standardized, so any gunsmith...

I have a piece of guitar string on the bench to loosen the primer jam that not infrequently occurs in the ram. It seems to happen less often with Small primers than with Large ones. Have a trash container under the press; ram down, insert string...

Not to worry, GF; those oversized, overlength, overweight, overly-expensive new handles that Lyman offers now appear to fit all the old double-cavity blocks I’ve tried on them. They also fit the oversized, overweight single-cavity blocks that Lyman...

I have and use a set of pre-Durachrome Pacific loading dies in .270 caliber. The full-length sizing die has SX and a Y around the top, and the seating die has S and Y, and both, of course, have the Pacific company stamp. So Id figure...

Generally, there is no easily visible difference between the old-style Lyman single- and double-cavity handles. Once in a blue moon, I see, or maybe imagine I see, a tiny S or L on one of the flats, but generally, when the box is lost, the only...

If its a flat-spring model, putting a fat barrel on sometimes changes the relationship of that multifunctional mainspring end to the front of the lever that it bears against. Depending on how this has changed, the lever can be impossible to open,...

The (rifled) false muzzle is reamed to give the muzzle end a narrow conical shape, like the start of an Ideal boolit sizing die. The tip of the starter fits the nose of the boolit and it and the starter bore keep the boolit in alignment. Part of...

I made a false muzzle once, out of a barrel that had some issues at the muzzle end. Some kind of weird green deposit that wouldnt clean out. I put a polished steel rod, with a jag end, into the barrel, and poured a couple inches of molten...

Too bad; it was the most intriguing cavity number, too. I recall a site exists somewhere that has photos of mangled and Bubba-ized loading equipment; a pic of that mould would be a worthy addition. In the time period that mould was manufactured...

I think Harold McFarland, in his book on gunsmithing, mentioned that a lot of Winchester 94s had rather sloppy headspace, either from wear on the locking surfaces or slight compression of the breech bolt from stiff loads. This was in the context...

An antique reloading Happy Ending! Excellent! Its only once in a blue moon that you find one of those multidesign moulds a really practical tool, all right. Three out of four useful cavities is pretty good odds. More often, you're always out...

I found an 8 twist barrel that I fitted to a FBW Single-Shot action and chambered in .25-35, and later had an outfit line a Savage .30-30 barrel with a 10 twist .25 liner and chamber it to .25-35. The FBW is very finicky about loadings with...

I went to my third gun show in a row yesterday where there was absolutely nothing of interest to buy and almost nothing even to look at. Zero, zip, nada. I dont insist on finding a rare treasure in my price range every show, or even every tenth...

The longevity of such cases is not very high. I load the few Ive found with black powder only and lose a case or three at every shooting/reloading cycle. Necks split, primer pockets swell and bases get sticky in shell holders.

When I first fired my Garrett Sharps carbine, I had a few failures to fire, and then by 20 shots or so, it was firing every time. I thought that maybe that U-shaped original style firing pin could have had the legs pinched slightly together, making...
