Electrolsis cleaners work great. As mentioned above, sometimes these problems come in layers. Keep working through the layers of carbon, copper & lead. One of my favorite methods is to use janitorial strength ammonia. Household ammonia is a...

A 460gr throw weight would be tough on the gun & shooter, but probably not too tough on a target. I just can't see where they would be going very fast.

I would suspect a sharp anomaly within the chamber. With care, I'd prepare a device that mirrors the proper cartridge and use it to polish down the interior of the chamber. got any good bore scope or something to look in there? If this occurred...

You could always send it to Bob Hoyt and have an insert (reline) installed. Go from .54 to. 50 or even .45. Less drama and added strength.

Are you going to lengthen the magazine well? I did a 98 once and converted to .30-06. The short 8mm original set up played the dickens on the longer .30-06 overall cartridge length when loading. Frustrated enough that I sold the rifle. Just a...

It's not brass shells, but when shortening conventional hulls, I took a pipe, of the desired length, which fit over the hull and came to rest against the rim. With that in place, I was able to cut the hulls, consistently, to the correct length. ...

I'm just getting into the .458 WM and casting. I tend to keep 'em slow and accuracy is very good. A thought about the long barrel you have; seems like a lot of lube would be beneficial. My barrel is much shorter.

I use 30.0 gr's with either a Dacron pinch or discs cut from LDPE to take up the air space. Fine load on the mild side. My concerns with these light loads are the possibility of ringing the chamber. I'd stay within recommended manual loads.

There was a fella here on the site that made 35 Rem from .308 Win. Unfortunately, he has passed, but it shows that it can be done. I've never made that conversion, so I'm no help. Perhaps others can chime in.

Pure lead is good for muzzle loaders. That 500 S&W will need a harder lead boolit to prevent leading as it's shot. Vendors sell alloys for hard casts and for that cartridge, you may want to start off with some of that. Save the pure for your...
