725 replied to a thread !2 ga round ball mold in Shot Guns
Yep. I think a naked ball will strip the rifling if pushed at all. I'm sure some spin will be induced but I think it will be negligible. I found a combo that won't mess the petals up as the load goes down the barrel, centers the load in the...

725 replied to a thread !2 ga round ball mold in Shot Guns
mruf205. There is an old thread of mine from 12/7/16 over on "casting & loading for shotguns", in which I lay out my particular venture into using round balls in a shotgun. I used a Jeff Tanner mold (and his company is still in business to make...

The Cody firearms museum is terrific. Movie guns, historic guns, even a matched pair of revolvers from John Linebaugh. The Little big Horn isn't too far, either. Went there about 55 years ago and then a return trip two years ago. Well worth it. ...

How are you fixing the holes that were drilled all the way through the rifling?

LAGS ~ are you going to bed the entire length of the barrel? Seems that would make for a very solid shooter. I've heard of others doing that and I've thought about doing that, too. 725

I do believe that manner of scope is called a "Malcolm" scope - or something close to that. I don't know if it refers to the brand or style.

Dakar is probably right. I'd err on the side of heavy for penetration if bone is encountered.

Henry sells a single shot for kids. I bought one for my kids and they liked it. Very deliberate procedure to load and fire. Makes looking over their shoulder (for safety) easier. Well made, too.

I use a turkey fryer and a cast iron pot, with a dipper. You can have multiple pots to accommodate different lead alloys. Pure / soft for ML's, harder for rifles, ........ etc.

725 replied to a thread 44 cal cast bullets in Cast Boolits
I concur with the above. Cast bullets are different than jacketed. They need to be ever so slightly oversized and properly lubed to function without generating lead in your barrel. A good, printed, re-load manual is a must. Follow the manual. ...

Using a lot of heavy materials will help, plus the weight of your stuff. If considering a rectangular bench, mounting the press on the short side will help. The physics of "tipping" the short side vs "tipping" the long side would give you a more...

I like the LFCD, as well. The action of the collet puts no pressure on the shoulder and the cases stay as sized. You can adjust the amount of crimp from very light to very heavy. (light seems to work best for me). Also, the Lee taper crimps work...

Nice job on the finish. It may sound a little off, but I like the finish that results from the use of red mahogany stain on walnut. Doesn't sound like a natural combo, but it renders the final product as resembling an old walnut stock. Still...
