Battis replied to a thread M1 Garand in Military Rifles
I went back to the antique store where I first saw the M1 Garand for $1250. It came with the CMP case and was labeled SA. He'd take $1000 for it. In his little section of the store, he now has two M1 Garands - same price, same SA label, basically...

At what weight would a cast bullet be too heavy for a replica Remington .44? What about a conversion cylinder? And, what about a ROA?

I can't remember where I saw the posts. Someone made bullets for a cap and ball revolver and sent some to another shooter. Apparently they were too heavy and the revolver was damaged. Hopefully, it will come to me where I read it. I just...

I'm not sure if I dreamed it, saw it in a cartoon or, most likely, on another forum, but someone designed a bullet for a C&B revolver and there were dangerous issues with the bullet design building too much pressure. Anyone else remember that?

Try 9mm dies. The bullets are the same diameter.

Battis replied to a thread Black powder bug in Muzzleloading.
Cap and ball revolvers usually need some tweaking. That's the good thing about used guns - most of the bugs have been worked out, or are at least obvious. It's a good idea to learn how to completely disassemble and assemble these revolvers, right...

Done that. If you read what I posted, there is one store in AL open. I called and asked what their inventory was. They would not tell me. It could be 1 or 100 - they won't tell over the phone. So, an 18 hour drive (one way) and they might or...

Battis replied to a thread M1 Garand in Military Rifles
A few years ago I realized that I had a timeline going, starting with an 1842 H.Aston, cap and ball Colts and Remington, 50-70 & 45-70 Trapdoors, Krags, a 1917 Winchester 30-06, 1917 S&W .45, all bought at relatively low prices. A Garand would fit...

Thanks for the good info. Nine? I saw one in antique shop a few weeks ago (I posted about it) and it's in a CMP case, with a CMP tag, but... the seller is not an FFL, which, I know, isn't a big deal, but if there's problems with the rifle, then...

I was thinking of making the trip further into the spring or early summer. But, that idea doesn't make sense now. You've been waiting five months? Wow. Eventually, I'll get one but that itch is fading.

Battis replied to a thread M1 Garand in Military Rifles
I joined the Garand Collectors Association and started filling out the CMP paperwork to buy one online. I thought about the 4 month wait, and getting a "luck of the draw" rifle, so I talked to my wife and we pondered the idea of driving to a CMP...

Battis replied to a thread shipping a rifle in Our Town
I just want to trim the herd a little bit. My options are selling on GB, or selling to a local shop, (or putting it on consignment at the shop). GB seems the best way to go. I've sold antiques and shipped them through UPS before, but the rifles...

I'm sure this has been asked a hundred times, but I can't get the search function to work on this forum. Anyways, I want to sell a rifle or two on GB. I understand it can be shipped with UPS to a licensed FFL. I called UPS and they said (in two...

It's a shooter but I think that if it had the serial numbers, it'd be more like $1500 (unless it is a fake). If it is the one from 10 years ago, no one wants to buy it. They had the 1849 .31 with four serial numbers for $400 (really rough shape -...

I collect antique cap and ball revolvers - Colt, Remington, Bacon, Warner, etc. Every one has a serial number. I haven't been to this store in a long time and, as I remember, they had a cap and ball revolver that I looked at, and it didn't have a...

I looked at an 1862 Colt Police .36 today. The price was very low for the quality of the revolver. There were no serial numbers on the gun, at all, anywhere. The salesman said it might have been a "Confederate captured gun" and they removed the...

I went to a gun shop last week to check out an 1891 S&W .32 single shot pistol they had listed on their site for a decent price. I'd never seen one before. Anyways, I left the shop with a Winchester 1906 .22 pump at half the price. It was made in...

It's interesting to see what state people live in, but what's really cool (to me) is seeing the ranges people shoot at. My club's ranges in NH are tree lined, but the ones I saw in ND, SD, WY were wide open.

It's one of those family situations. I have no say, but I'm checking to make sure that the "expert" that's pricing stuff is on track, especially with the firearms. There's a rusty, dirty barrel that I'm pretty sure is a Weatherby but the...

I don't have one, I'm not selling or buying one, but I am pricing one for a family member (death in family). It's a MEC 762R .410 loader. I can't find a price online. I'm not sure of its condition (I've never seen it), but let's say it's good.
