Can Cerrosafe be used to cast a test bullet, strictly for measurement purposes? Why? I have a Lyman 452664 mold that is supposed to cast .452” RNFP bullets for my 45 Colt. After sizing to .452” I have noticed the sizing die smears a tongue...

After you clean your firearm the metal is given a light coat of oil inside and out to preserve against rust. Before the firearm is shot again one dry patch swabs out any excessive presents of oil. The patch does not and can not pull out all the...

Try pushing one of your bullets nose first into the chambers exit holes. This is a test to detect how loose or tight the chamber throats are. The bullet should have tight sliding fit. Too loose the bullet my not swell up particularly if the...

I don’t sit while casting. Always stand just in case I have to dodge something bad happening. I wear a shop apron over long sleeves and jeans and welders gloves. The apron acquires tiny splashes of lead that I don’t see splashing on me at the...

Check that copper vane that’s used for damping beam movement. See if it got bent slightly, it maybe rubbing inside the frame. Maybe spider web material could be in the vanes swing path.

I measure my ingredients in grams on a digital kitchen scale and write down the gram weight of all the ingredients. I measure by weight solid or liquid because it is easier. This is particularly important if at the last minute I toss in something...

greenjoytj replied to a thread Case lube in Boolit Lube !
I smear Imperial Sizing Wax onto a clean RCBS lube pad. Roll a case across the pad, size the case and wipe off the lube on that case with a paper towel. I found I used much less lube by smearing the Wax on the lube pad than directly lubing the...

Too bad the Big Lube 250 gr bullet drops at .456” instead of a more modern .452” dia. I have a 255gr SAECO #955 RNFP with a good size lube groove that drops at .456” after sizing to .452” the crimp groove is virtually smeared shut from displaced...

I think duplexing is a rule violation to use duplex BP+smokeless in shooting games competition. I’m not a competitor in any shooting game competition but was thinking of trying 45 Colt with 2 grains of middle burn rate smokeless Hodgdon’s...

In Black Powder shooting I believe there are myths past off for so long some think they are facts. For some, BP shooting is like a religion, therefore rational thinking goes out the window. I suspect that there are high temperature petroleum...

I apply a vibrator tool to the side of my cartridge cases to settle the powder charge. Yes vibration does settle the powder column to a very consistent level, as long as the vibration has been applied in a consistent manner. The powder slumps down...

I would search for an ALOX free lube because I’ve read that the Lubrizol company that made ALOX has stopped production of that product. Industry must have moved on to a cheaper equivalent or a better alternative product. Only residual stocks of...

It my understanding that the cast round ball should be large enough so a thin lead ring is shaved off the fullest diameter of the ball (equator ?) when the ball is pressed into the chambers. This ensures a tight fit in the chamber to help avoid a...

Maybe try shorter brass like the Cowboy Special brass, Scofield or just trim back a few cases to test. The smaller internal case volume would help keep pressure up and more stable to reduce extreme spreads.

I have a SAECO #955 .452”/.454” 255 grain RNFP my first .45x size mold for 45 Colt. This iron 4 cavity mold dropped bullets at .4561” dia. at 262grs with 20:1 Rotometal alloy the last time I cast with it. The large dia. makes the bullet tough to...

Recently I loaded some Lyman 452644 RNFP bevel base boolits than we’re lubed a year ago. The heater on my Lubri-sizer got my homemade Emmerts lube too hot an softened it into a sticky gooey mess right up the ogive of the bullets. The lanolin really...
