Yes, that is going to be quite safe in any Uberti SAA chambered for 45 Colt. While I have not pressure tested 231 in the 45 Colt my standard load for 195 - 205 gr cast bullets is 7.3 gr of Bullseye. It pressure tests at 14,000 psi +/-. The same...

Apples and oranges.....good lesson learned w/o too much damage. This thread is in regard to pistol cartridges that generate much less psi than cartridges, particularly rifle cartridges, that develop a lot more pressure. Even some of the newest...

copperlake I don't think we're in disagreement at all. Yes, there can indeed be lug setback. My point is; we should not infer that normal "seating/mating" of the bolt lugs be confused with actual setback. Often that is the case which leads to...

Many times what is perceived as "bolt lug set back" in Mauser actions of all models, including M98s, is actually the "seating/mating of the bolt lugs to the locking surfaces. This initial seating or the bolt lugs to the action was expected. ...

As mentioned, you are simply pushing the 300 gr PB cast bullet way too fast. If it was a GC bullet and GC'd then it probably would shoot a lot better. If you want to use the 4198 powder with the commercial Meister 300 gr bullets drop back to 33 gr...

I also shoot that bullet in my 44 Magnums and 44-40s. I use it for hunting loads in light game. Usually cast of 16-1 and bushed at 1400 - 1600 fps out of the 44 magnums. Also cast of 16-1 and pushed at 1800 fps out of the M92 carbine 44-40 it...

Larry Gibson replied to a thread which alloy in Hunting with CB's
With a binary alloy of lead/tin I usually switch from 20-1 to 16-1 when the velocity runs 1350+ fps. I have pushed 16-1 alloyed bullets to 1800 fps with very good success ballistically, both external and terminal. That is with lubed cast bullets....

The Lyman OAL of 1.272 is for the Lyman 225 gr 452374. The Lee bullet you are using has a different nose profile. The Lee bullet is intended to seat deeper. The 1.212" OAL you've found is pretty close to the correct OAL for the Lee bullet. As to...

Both lots of '42 I tested ran 2849 and 2873 fps (muzzle) out of my VZ24 with 23" barrel. The psi ran 58,700 and 60,100. Warm, yes, but still comparable to German WWII military specifications.

Texas by God makes a good suggestion. Try your M98 and see if it feeds 30-30s. If the rear left of the follower has not been modified be careful not to let the rim of the 1st cartridge slip behind it or the bolt can't push it forward. I just...

You'll be money ahead to chamber it to a cartridge that fits the action. The 30x57 is highly recommended for the M98 action using a barrel with a 14" twist is preferable (12" twist minimum0 for cast bullets. Trying to get the M98 to feed a...

That bullet, with its short oal when loaded in the 45 ACP, will feed reliably in most pistols that do not have an integral ramp. Older M1911 barrels that have not had the feed ramp widened may not feed it well also. Colt Series 70 with factory...
