Northern AZ here, exceptional drought and record high temps either tied or broken every day this week. Wildfires are burning all over the place, and it's smoky as all get out. Yeah, and it's not even summer yet.

The 8mm Mauser is no slouch. Properly loaded, it'll do all the 06 will do and then some. But yeah, if ya shoot corrosive surplus out of it...clean it the same day or the bore will get "moldy" on you real quick.

I use mine for formal and informal target shooting, pest eradication, and plinking.

Sweet's 7.62 Solvent is what I use for serious copper fouling. Yes, plug the gas port and remove the bolt so you can flush the solvent out after cleaning. Be sure to follow the directions, it should not be left in the bore for long periods of time!

Why are you aiming for Linotype hardness? Knowing the purpose of these boolits would be helpful to know. More Antimony = Larger boolits as you surmised, and also much more difficulty sizing them. BHN 21 is something I "might" use for rifle alloy....

Mixing Lino and COWW's is OK to do, I do it all the time. I mix 25% Lino with 75 % WW's for an air cooled BHN of around 15. Water dropping it will get you up around BHN 22. This has been my "go to" target rifle alloy for many years. Hunting alloy is...

I shot my initial CCW qualification with a revolver too. I used a Dan Wesson Model 15 and dropped no points. As I have grown older, I find myself shooting my revolvers more and more. Tired of chasing brass I guess...

This Midway sale differs from some of the previous CMP offers because of the wide variety of different manufactures available to chose from. I have no idea of the provenance or authenticity of any of these, but there may be some real gems in the...

They are cool and highly specialized creatures! I can remember as a child taking a small twig and getting them to go after it when lightly touching it to the funnel. We would also catch ants and feed them to the "Lions".

Nice shooting, congrats on that target Sir! S&W really got it right with the 625 model of 1989. Here's a couple pics of mine: Altamont Roper style round to square butt conversion grips in Olivewood, fits my hands perfectly. Another pic with the El...

I'd try adding some lino, WW, or hard shot to your alloy to harden it up some. Once you do this you could even water drop it if you are so inclined. If you have any regular Lee alox you could try that too. Lastly I would size to .312 and see what...

ShooterAZ replied to a thread Roll vs Taper in Cast Boolits
I typically use a roll crimp on only the heaviest recoiling revolver rounds, and a taper or profile crimp crimp on most everything else.

There are many different schools of thought on this subject, ranging from "one shot/one clean" to just shooting it. I am in the just shooting it camp. Shoot five rounds, clean and repeat would be somewhere in the middle.
