From Glen Fryxell's on-line book (see Sticky From Ingot To Target) it is mentioned to assure the spru plate is sufficiently hot (as well as the mold) or the molten lead going through is cooled prior to reaching the bottom and sides of the mold,...

That you found only one is a good thing. That it has caused you, me, and others to look at our stash too is a good thing. I have an SP101 that I carry and I don't keep loads in there long enough to corrode. A week is long enough. Some LE's change...

I melt pure lead and COWW's together in 100# batches, pour batches into 3# ingots, weigh the ingots, write the ingot weight on the side of the ingot, and store ingots in ammo cans. When it is time to add an ingot to the casting pot, I add the...

Going too fast is acknowledged. I like your comparison at 25 gr. Ford SD. Additional reading is complete, except for the RCBS Cast Manual, to which I don't have access. I own the Lyman #4 Manual, referenced offhanded in the OP. No loads there...

We strive to cut the spru to the boolit base square yet we add a gas check that has a radius to its base - a function of "cannot get a square base from" the GC punch. Perhaps in the "heat of the moment" as the gas checked boolit is "spanked" by the...

Age hardening and an associated increase in lead-alloy boolit diameter is a known phenomena. Perhaps it is not the lube at all. You did not mention alloy or age of the cast boolits.
