At first I was irritated, because I do like the look of a butt plate better, and, on principal, items should look like their picture. But, as I casually set the butt of the rifle on the floor and leaned the barrel on the wall, I thought about how I would never be able to be so casual with a hard butt plate, for fear of it slipping. And maybe a rubber pad has some accuracy advantage, where it’s less inclined to move on your shoulder, etc. The other reason, I prefer a play versus pad, is I need a long length of pull on everything. And typically whether butt plate or pad, companies seem to make the LOP the same. With a plate I have the option of adding a pad and making a longer length of pull if I need to. The one on the bottom is a Ruger Single Six. The cylinder on the top I can't identify. The rotation star cuts are different. I can still find it but the overall selection is drying up. Yesterday's conversation with a Walmart stocking employee revealed he'd begun to buy more to avoid the complete dry up of the Obama years. Prices locally are about the same but the shelves are getting thinner. Fortunately, the threads on the take-down screw itself are OK.

If anyone out there knows the thread pitch & diameter I'd appreciate the info. Also, if someone know a source for the tap, that info would help also.

Well I get half way thought the gate and hear " bzzzpring " now my gate is behind my other shed and when I poke around I see some folk on my unlea back porch trying to take some pot shots at some cans with a bb gun and looking a lil upset. Well I double back saying hold your fire and all that .they where mortified but told em it happens to everyone relax. End up it was to cousins of mine from a few hours north. Cam down to visit found a old daisy 880 and uncle told them to have fun and just and in the pasture...which in all fairness was a safe direction they just couldn't see my lil gate .
Anyhow there two young women and they said they wanted to shoot and have shot but where never really allowed to learn too much about guns past point over there and pull the trigger. Mom apparently was one of those types who don't really like guns , dad wanted them to know something yadda yadda. Well then my uncle comes out holding a old .22 lr he uses to dispatch cows a box of shells and there mom in tow looking mortified. She's talking a bou how big and scary the gun is the girls are looking scared now , I'm 90% sure the dang thing ain't sighted in ... So I just tell em to give me a minute I'll run to the house get my wife's gun and I'll teach em how to safely shoot a lil. She's hears it's my wife's gun and immediately calms down a bit.

So the the gun in question isn't my wife's Smith and Wesson 15-22 . It's a dedicated.22lr AR15 and if you ask me it's a far superior learning platform then a traditional single shot bolt action. But the deal is ...it's painted pink and white camo and has hello kitty stickers all over it [emoji1787] she's love pink , and she loves hello kitty so to make it hers I gave it that paint job and she added the stickers . The funny thing is , I gotten more people, especially women to relax and shoot it more then any other gun I have . And a lot do these people are friggen TERRIFIED of fire arms but they see an dang pink hello kitty gun they mellow out super fast and most of them ended up telling me " well when I saw it was pink and cute it dirn seem as scary" or something like that ....ok I guess [emoji23]

Well anyhow go to the house grab it and my tripod and walk back. Get back over there mom see this big ole case and ask what the heck is in it . Said it was my wife's AR15 and it perfect to tech young women to shoot with . As soon as I said AR-15 she stared freaking out ..and then I open the case and she saw


She looked at it , looked at me , looked at it , looked at me and just said " O....well..that dosent look like the ones on the news" the girls where just in awe saying they hand no clue you could just do this to a gun if you wanted.

Welp set the tripod up show them how to adjust it to then , how to work the gun, the safety , proper sight picture setting. The stock properly ( both of them said they never shot a rifle that felt comfortable and that actually kind afit them ) all that . Showed then how to load the mag and off to the races they went . There mom could not believe how much fun they where having they where popping bottles at 50yd back to back .
Burned probably 100rd of some cheap bulk stuff I keep around just for this stuff and they where both telling there mom that they where gonna try and take some classes and buy one of these for themselves [emoji23]

I took Dad's old 1947 52B and some CCI SV. I haven't shot it in 30 years. While they were busy magazine dumping I shot 4 shells into the berm to sort of prelube the barrel. With the Lyman Iron sights (front sight had the orange plastic aperture insert) I then shot 3 shots at a 50yd. target from a bench rest. "How's that ancient thing shooting?" I was asked. Well, they had the spotting scope so I said, "you tell me". "That old gun shoots pretty good", I was told. When we measured the little triangle of shots it was .280" c to c, widest 2 shots.
