LACHMILLER SWAGING DIES AND PRESS

Well I came across a set of dies and a press I had never seen before. I have seen advertisements for swaging dies made by Lachmiller Engineering, but the advertisement I saw were for reloading press dies threaded 7/8"x14. The dies I found are threaded 1 1/4"x18. They are for making 38 caliber wadcutters. I found a Lachmiller Engineering Reloading Press #100 on fleabay, removed the 7/8"x14 press bushing and low and behold the press threads are 1 1/4"x18. The swagng dies fit, and the external punch fit the ram where the shell holders fit.

1. External Punch, fits press ram.
2. Ejection Cup, fits on top of External Punch to catch ejected bullet that drops out of the Swaging Die on ejection.
3. Die Housing, holds Swaging Die, Die Spring, Internal Punch, and Die Housing Cap.

Screw Die Housing Assembly into top of press, and mount External Punch onto press ram where shell holder goes. To swage bullet, you place a cut core into the bottom of the Swaging Die, which is protruding through the bottom of the Die Housing mounted in the top of the press, then lower the press handle and the External Punch on the press ram will rise into the Swage Die pressing the Swaging Die up into the Die Housing and onto the Internal Punch, and thus swaging the bullet. When you raise the press handle, the ram lowers the External Punch out of the Swaging Die, but the swaged bullet remains pressed into the top of the Swage Die.

Place the Ejection Cup on top of the External Punch on the press ram. Lower the handle and raise the press ram, with the Ejection Cup, against the bottom of the Swage Die in the top of the press, pressing the Swage Die up into the bottom of the Die Housing. This will press the Swaging Die up into the Die Housing against the internal Die Spring, forcing the Swage Die and swaged bullet up onto the Internal Punch inside the Die Housing, ejecting the swaged bullet into the top of the Ejection Cup.

When you raise the handle and the press ram and Ejection Cup lower out of the Die Housing, the swaged bullet will be in the Ejection Cup and when you remove the Ejection Cup from the External Punch on the press ram, you can just dump the finshed lead bullet out of the Ejection Cup.

This set came to me disassembled and without instructions. This is the best I could figure out. If anyone has more knowledge, information, additions or corrections, please post it.

You have to remember I've been off the site for about10 years. I think he made a die that reduced lead cast bullets diameters used in making cores. All I remember is something special about a punch and reducing die. There was something special about punch that alludes me. Any infotmation to help jar my memory would be greatly appreciated. I think the punches ended up in my Blackmon dies container.

I found the lead reducing die made with a large punch and reducing dies made from bolt heads.

I knew a guy that quit shooting benchrest and wanted $5000 for a used set.
I have a couple of hundred that he made but didn’t use because the die had not warmed up.
I have been shooting them in my 6PPC but since I ran across a deal on 4000 20 year oid first quality bullets those will be used to work up a load or for fouling shots

Is B T Sniper still in business? He will have the market cornered unless someone else pops up with Corbins or Blackmon’s equipment.
