In my H&R Model 1871 rifle in .38-55 caliber, I've tried several powders as well as bullet diameters, settling on a deer hunting load using the powder coated Slippery Bullet in .381 diameter with 25 grains of 4198 with a TP filler between the powder and bullet. It shoots 1" groups at 50 yards; however, the recoil of the curved butt plate is noticeable more than with the equally accurate 10 grains of Unique powder (but less foot pounds of energy) and I'd like to add a slip-on recoil pad to make it more comfortable to shoot. Suggestions?

Hello you wonderful casters. Ive come looking for help in an unfamiliar area of casting for me. Now im looking for powder suggestions for .45 long colt. Some back round before I get into the meat of this. A friend and me are both looking at get our rifles a Miroku 1873 winchester with a 20"barrel and a new production pedersoli Silver spur in .45 colt 24" barrel.

What im looking for id a good powder that I can achieve 1100-1200+ Fps with velocity with 230 - 255 grain bullets while staying below 14,000 PSI threshold. I do have books on cast bullet reloading but it doesn't cover all the powders that could be used. Ive come because you guys have a wealth of knowledge.

My next question. Is a hollowpoint viable at this velocity 1100+ fps if I use a softer alloy like 1:40 with a deep hollowpoint cavity will I achieve any expansion. I've read at these lower velocities hollowpoints have a tendency not to expand or very little nose expansion not opening past the bullet diameter.

I appreciate any help.
