A long story short, I picked up a Marlin 25n parts kit years ago for the magazines and its collecting dust. It had a custom stainless grip frame with some badly-fitted Turkish walnut burl stocks. It had a few other problems as well, but that is relatively normal for any used gun. The previous owner had already done some things I would probably have done myself, so I took the good with the bad.

20260705_150616.jpgThe gun came with .45 Colt and .45 ACP cylinders, and shot well with both. I ended up doing some work to fit the grip frame to the gun as well. It was a 1976-production gun with the bicentenial script on the barrel. I was in Germany for all of that year and did not find out about these guns until years later. I plan to have lots of fun with this one... and maybe a few adventures too. The badly-fitted stocks bugged me though.


Some time ago, I had noticed that the battleship USS Missouri was having sections of her deck replaced, as museum ships are wont to do from time to time. The museum was selling small pieces of the original teak decking. At the time I did not have a specific project in mind for it, but the price wasn't just too bad, so I paid my money and a week or so later, I received a small block of weathered teak for my coinage.

After doing a little rough measurement, I determined that I could probably get a couple of stock panels for the new-to-me revolver out of the block. Did a bit of research that including consulting Google's AI. On the AI's suggestion, I plan to leave the original weathered surfaces on the outside. This, the AI assured me, would look quite good on a single-action revolver. It further suggested French oil, linseed oil or teak oil as a finish. Pretty smart AI, I'd say.

The photos show the stocks fitted to the grip frame and roughly shaped. Most, if not all, of the Dremmel work is done. The rest of the shaping/finishing process will likely involve a few hours of hand sanding. Yes, I know the revolver needs a bath. So do I.

I plan to use a single round head stock screw with a pair of washers and a nut. Possibly the nut will get epoxied into place. Probably is a more elegant way to do this, but it should work.

The plan is to post more pictures as the project progresses.

Anybody got suggestions, I will read 'em and consider the advice.
