I have been researching how to improve the accuracy of an M-1, as I am not satisfied with mine.
A lot of what I have read, says to tighten up the gas cylinder. This seems to come up, in a few spots on the internet, but there does not seem to be much info on what this requires or how loose is too loose.

I have also read about stock fitment and tightening the wood fitment. I found mine to be a little sloppy, but not horrible. So I did my best to tighten it up, and now I am satisfied with the fitment.

I bought this gun about a year ago, to use for a guilt free shooter, since its already been somewhat butchered.
It started it's life as a Winchester, made about Mid-war era.
Then was apparently sent to Denmark and returned to and sold by the CMP.
It's a pretty nice old rifle, but with the Mods that they made to it, there is no collector value.
It has the stamped serial number in the stock, a missing Unit disk hole in the pistol grip, a Danish marked sling, and the barrel is a VAR. These are supposed to be really good barrels, but this is about a 4 -5 MOA rifle, with jacketed loads. The barrel is in perfect condition, and actually gauges part way between a 0 and a .05. Actually tighter than several of my other US rifles that I thought had good to great barrels.
Bore scope shows no internal damages or pitting. Almost like its a new barrel.
Still it's a terrible shooter.
Maybe I am expecting too much. I know it wont shoot with my M1A-Loaded, but I think it should shoot better thank it does. I'm thinking 2 inches is not too much to ask for.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thank in advance.

I loaded up some 174 grain Hornandy FMJBT Match bullets, CCI 34 primers and 45 grains of Hornandy Hybrid 100 powder.
The fired load is right at spects and is very accurate. The rifle was made in May,1917.
My rifle is almost like new , with a great bore.
I had a shoot off with another club member who brought his like new 1941 Lithgow SMLE rifle.
Weather was bright and clear with a 5 MPH right-to-left wind. The bullet matched the sights and if I did my part, the target was struck with every shot taken. The rifle and its cousin, my M-1917 are two of my best shooters at long ranges.

The load tried was 13 grains and the load shot very well at 200 Meters!, but did not reach 1,200 FPS. I'm going increase the load by 1/2 grain.
The trejectory was very steep.The rear sight was set to 600 yards to hit the 200 Meter target.
The target is a 1/2 man size torso target made of AR-550.

This is the description. I have never seen the rifle in person so I don't know the condition of the stock.
I have a Winchester M1917 in great shape but this rifle is intriguing. I've priced out sights and extractor - not too bad.
