I love the gun, but it is very fickle about what it shoots accurately.

I've done the usual gambit of accuracy improving mods, fitting the handguards, loose screws, williams aperture sight on the receiver and a Partridge blade up front.

It routinely struggles to give acceptable for medium game accuracy with all but a handful of bullets. I'm looking for 5 shots giving a 4moa group at 100yds. To date the only bullets to give this level of performance is the hornady 158 xtp-fp, and NOE 180-wfn cast from coww. I've tested probably a dozen others ranging 5-12 inches. Fliers common is the biggest issue. Some groups would be acceptable without them, but easily half the tested ammo is a fail.

Am I the only one struggling to get these to 100yds? Welcome to suggestions. I know its got design limits but I'm not asking it to be a bolt gun.

I'm debating taking off the mag tube and handguard and testing accuracy without the front end off to see if things clear up a bit. I wait 2 minutes between shots these days to keep heat from being a factor.

Feeds 'em like a custom bullet designed specifically for that gun, and you get a capacity boost with the short round length.

I had always thought of getting one of these for my Krag Sporter and looking for one to add to a Lee 6 cavity handle replacement order today I couldn't decide which color - orange or flo green - would be better for my purposes and old eye so wonder what others that have them had experienced both on the range (load group testing) and in the woods. Didn't have to decide today as ones with the width and height I need were on backorder for both Williams and Marble brands at both online sources I checked out so I held off ordering at all. I even looked through the reviews to see any mention of one color over the other and only saw a couple references with one being a preference for flo green when hunting in softwoods (spruce/fir/pines) that was posted by a guy from the NEK of VT which is the same area I hunt as could be suggested by my handle and another from NH that also preferred flo green for hunting there. First time I tried to load, it kept shooting cartridges past the cartridge stop. No bueno. Took it back, it went to the "gunsmith", who ended up telling the seller he couldn't do anything with it.

Over the course of a couple years I took it to the range and shot it singly loaded, meaning to get around to researching the problem at some point and got put away.

Was poking around in the gun cabinet the other dayand it surfaced. Decided it needed dealt with, went to YouTube(my best friend these days with stuff I don't already know how to do) and found two videos by one fella from years ago showing the exact problem with the mating surfaces of the cartridge stop neeeding refaced to swing it over the center of the cartridge. The comments showed a *ton* of folks with the same problem, apparently fitting of parts was not a priority at Rossi for some years)

Pulled it apart today, did a little judicious filing, learned a whole lot more about how an 1892 goes together, and now it works like it should.

Only real hassle was whoever drilled the mainspring pin hole in the hammer strut drilled the teensyest hole I’ve ever seen, out of square with the v-slot in the tang pillar. It was a pain getting the smallest size paper clip in it and keep the mainspring from slipping over it. Hopefully I won’t have to open it anytime soon and have to deal with drilling another hole in the strut.

But, for a guy that’s been mostly sidelined with cardiac and back problems for some time, it’s a nice feeling to actually accomplish a small task,,,,,

Also, the Marbles guy did say that my bolt would hit the sight.

The hole spacing on my tang is 1 1/8". I am not opposed to modifying another base by drilling a hole.

Can you guys point me to one that may be adaptable? Maybe one that may sit further back?

I also looked at Lyman but I run into the same issues with availability. Any help is appreciated.

I reassembled the bolt and put a spent 38 spl case on the bolt face to hold in the ejector. I inserted the bolt and got the case going into the chamber to keep the ejector in place. Just as I have done other times.

I inserted the lever with the locking lugs. I checked to verify I had the lugs on the correct sides. The lever went in and picked up the bolt. the locking lugs slipped into place.

I inserted the bolt pin and went to check the action. The bolt wouldn't move. Ok, the bolt pin is sticking out and won't let the bolt move. I fiddle with it for a bit and can't get it to work. I knock out the bolt pin.

This is where I am now. The bolt pin is out and the bolt still won't move. I cannot get the lever assembly out with out moving the bolt. I tried putting a dowel down the barrel and tapping on the bolt it won't move. I took a small punch and tried to tap the bolt out and that failed.

I can look into the action with a flash light and see that the finger levers seem to have engaged the bolt correctly.

At this point I am stuck.
