My Dad has one of them 32/20, 32 H&R Blackhawks. He wants to convert the H&R cylinder to 327 to get rid of some boolit jump not just to gain FPS.

Can anyone point me to a proven smith that does such a thing?

THANKS

Hi 357 Max,

I don't want to ruin your or his day -- BUT!--

Just remind him that the 32-20 pistol rounds are operating at about 1/2 the pressure of a 327 mag which is about 42,000 to 46,000 PSI.

The cylinder might not hold together for long.
If he will be just loading fired 327 cases to 32-20 speccs I guess he will be safe!

Best,

One cylinder on the gun is for 32 mag and I suspect that is the one he is going to rechamber. They were built on the Blackhawk frame so should be just fine.

THANK YOU, that's what I needed.

You are absolutely correct on all accounts. This is on one of them 32/20 & 32H&R Buckeye blackhawks that he already has some custom work into. The problem is that our normal gunsmith is no longer with us. He is missed alot around here for many reasons. The only thing we have locally is "parts changers" if you know what I am alluding to.[smilie=l:

I do know a toolmaker that can do it if he had the reamer, but Dad wants a professional smith with a "name".

I got to shoot one of Rugers new SS Blackhawks in 327....... based on the 357 frame and cylinder size. Its got a lot more going on the than the 32 Mag did (lots more noise, same 120 gr. boolit). The 311440 might be very good in the 327 in that platform. As for boolit jump, I tried the 32 S&W short, 32 long, 32 mag and the 327 in it. Don't count on accuracy from the shorter cases if you do this.
