Is anybody using the Alloy Calculator program downloaded from the Cast Bullet Association? I'm having a problem with it. It seems to think that pure lead has a BHN of 8.6.

So with 70 reads on this post, and no replies, I have to assume that nobody uses this program. I thought it might be a useful tool, but as I have it, I don't believe the results are anywhere accurate.

I don't use it. I made my own but its only for mixing alloy and no hardness scale or anything like that.

Rotometals seems to think pure lead is 8.6 as well. This from their web site:

Basic Rules for Harding Lead-

For every 1% additional tin, Brinell hardness increases 0.3.
For every 1% additional antimony, Brinell hardness increases 0.9.
For a simple equation,
Brinell = 8.60 + ( 0.29 * Tin ) + ( 0.92 * Antimony )

Now that's interesting. You'd think they know what's what, but it goes against everything I've ever read.
Anyway, I just thought that program would be something I could make good use of, but it just doesn't seem right to me.

I used it to calculate out a batch that I wanted to duplicate Lyman #2. It worked pretty well. It seems like I had to tweak some number in there. I don't have it on this laptop but I will check to see if I can find it and what I had to tweak.

RM,

If you search for alloy calculator here you should find several choices.
