When I used to build kart racing engines for a living we had pretty good luck sending out rods/piston/etc for cryo treatment. I realize the cost would probably be prohibitive but has anyone ever had bullets treated in this way? Just curious

Yesir we routinely treat our boolits at -50F to -60F and they work extremely well.
We do this at no additional cost to our customers.
Aint we nice!

Hehehe.
I used to live there. I know.

Is there some purpose you have to try this experiment? It would be interesting to see a boolit straight from the mold dropped into liquid hydrogen. I image it would harden the bejeebers out of it!

When I heat treat batches of bullets on a cookie sheet in the oven I cool them by tossing them in a bucket of ice water. This brings my wheel weight alloy to 22 BHN. That is hard enough for my .223 loads to 2600 fps. Not Cryo temps but great for what I want.

I was wondering about the toughness of the lead after the treatment. I realize it might harden the lead a bit but with aluminum parts it increases the strength of the base metal. Could be useful for keeping jacketed bullets together?? The research continues........
