Need a little help here guys before I go out and purchase a new NOE mold.

My dilema is: Will WQ WW's be able to be driven at/around 1300fps without causing a whole bunch of leading in my barrel? I will be using LBT Blue as my lube and 2400/296/H110 as powders.

I realize that there is a lot of perameters not covered but my intentions are to feed a Ruger Redhawk in 357mag that I acquired.

Any insight for the new guy to casting would be greatly appreciated.

I do not WQ at all any more and since most of my loads are ultimately to be hunted with I go even softer than ACWWs. Boolit fit is the most important. I push cast ACWW in my 35 Rem over 2000 fps with no leading. I push cast 50/50 ACWW/Pure in my Marlin 444 at over 1800 fps with no leading.

My Opinion in order of importance pertaining to leading is

1 Boolit fit
2 Boolit fit
3 Boolit fit
4 Lube
5 Powder
6 Hardness

PS By the way you can't go wrong with NOE's molds. I have 9 different molds of his and they have all been cut perfectly and large for caliber.

I second that ^^^ You should do just fine with air cooled in .357 at those velocities so long as your fit is correct. The only bullets I water quench are rifle bullets driving 1600+.

Concur. Hard is bad unless you know exactly what problem the hardness will fix. Harder bullets should be way down the list.

I WQ only bullets destined for my M1 Garand at this point.

How does your M1 like them?
Got 2 in the dungeon but even by reloading bulk "J" bullets it's expensive.

My M1's like them very well.

Range report here:

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=91478 (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=91478)

Short version: 200 grain gas check bullet, size .310, lube with a good lube (I use felix) and load over 32 grains of varget + .75 dacron.

Above link also has results with H4831 and Reloader 15. I have since tried 36 grains of Reloader 15 and it fixed the short stroke issues I was having.

I am currently starting to paper patch. Plan to try some lighter bullets (160-170 gr) at regular mil-spec ballistics. I will post another range report when I get that project to the range.
