Picked up a very nice 1895 ,serial # B0015xx. Noticed in comparing with late model
1895ss & 1895cb that ejection port does not seem to have as generous of opening
near the front as the new ones do. Anybody that has a old and new notice this ?:cbpour:

It prolly wont work as good as your newer one. Too bad! I feel sorry enough for ya that I will take the old beater off your hands.
Maybe with a lot of grinding and tinkering I might get it to work half decent. I am willing to take the chance.

My B0 has the same issue on the ejection port. You just have to stick the boolit nose in a little farther back when single loading them into the chamber. Does your B0 have the 7-groove cut rifling (IIRC)? The first half of that model year did. Later that year they started switching over to MG rifling. Brian Pearce, in Handloader, got a small rift going when he said the B0's were MG rifled. He didn't realize the very first ones were cut rifled. Many pointed it out to him later. I've heard it stated from several sources that these cut rifled bbl's were made by Douglas.

Mine still has the original curved, hard plastic buttplate. I want to keep it original, but ooh does it belt you with stout loads.

Ya BABore mine has the cut rifling,7or8 groove. I'll find out how it smacks me this week when I'm off from work. Got some factory Rem 405gr and some Lee 405 gr handloads to try.:Fire:

Mine isn't part of that 1st year production, but still early enough for the straight stock. I had a pad installed on mine to help tame the recoil. Compressed loads of H322 and 405gr aren't for the faint of heart!

I've since opted to shoot cast only with my latest mold choice being the NOE 350gr. GC. Its a great rifle for still hunting through the thick stuff, or carrying on deer drives. A receiver sight keeps the weight and bulk to a minimum.

Just take a dremmel tool and widen out the front of the port and then cold blue it. I had the same issue. You will notice that the bullets are barely catching the gate on the front edge of the bullets. I bet if you open the lever briskly the larger meplate bullets will eject. Took me about 5 minutes to solve the problem.

I think I will leave it as is and use it for 350gr to maybe 420gr loads, although I think BRP's 465gr is going to work also. I'll found out later in the week.:drinks:
