Last summer I got my great grandfathers Savage 1899 30/30 and I sent for a Lee 170 FP bullet mold and a Marble tang sight... That is the first I have tried CB's in a rifle. Last weekend 11/14/10 it all paid off and the pay off was big! It was a real quiet morning and I was slowly working a grunt call for about 20min and just getting light enough on a foggy morning to shoot. So when I saw something coming with the wind from the north in the flooded out willows I got my chance to see if the old Savage and CB's could get it done?? When He hit a little clearing in the willows I shot from my treestand in some poplars 70yds, hit him in the middle(liver) and he humped up and started running when I hit him in the front leg and grazed the bottem of his chest, he stumbled to a wobbly walk ...then the safety hung-up... I got that off... he stopped in another clump of heavy willows and I shot he stepped out and I hit him again... not my best shooting... at 120yds I hit him in the neck and put him down for good... Now for the hard part... how to add a picture!http://

WOW, what a buck.

I've never shot a whitetail, but have been trying to get a Montana tag the past few years. If I shot one like that I'd quit right there while I was way ahead.

Congratulations on a great buck, your great-grandfather would be proud.

Great deer! The cool factor on this one is off the chart. An old classic rifle and traditional sights. Then you add the handloaded ammo with a home made bullet and it makes the hair stand up on the back of you neck!Good job!

Wow! Good grief!! You can't do any better than that. Looks to me like it'll gross 170 or better. Man-alive!!! Good job, and congrats![smilie=w:

What part of Minnesota are ya huntin'? I'm over by Mora. I haven't seen hardly any bucks this season. I'd probably have to change my pants if I saw one THAT big.

I can tell you like you said the cool factor in my mind is the biggest thing...It really all came together and the hair is still standing up on the back of my neck and a big smile on my face!:drinks: I did not weigh him but I am 6ft tall and 195pds hes alot bigger than I am....and the inside spread is 22" + and its a good thing I did not get a good look at how wide the rack is until it was all over...lol! [smilie=1: ...the night before we were sitting around talking about nice bucks and this is a place I go in one night and the next morning and I move everyday... but you never know?? I do my best to hunt the wind....Its big country in northern MN.8-)
