I haven't seen this for a while, but there it was today, big as life, a brick of .22 ammo for less than $20.

I'd like that price at this point in the ammo rip-off game at the big-market stores.

I bought 17 boxes of winchester "333" for $9.99 a box. This is when they had the limit of 6 boxes deal. There were 45 boxes on the shelf.
The price is now $12.99 a box.

Recently paid $18 for a box of Win. 555 's. Don't even know why I bought it??? Just moved a 20 mm ammo can full of assorted bricks of 22's that were in the basement and had to put a piece of carpet underneath it to slide. Too heavy to lift. Most were bought when bricks were going for $8.90[smilie=1:

I've used them in a bolt action with good results. Nothing stellar, but good enough for plinking and dispatching.........

Many many years ago everytime I saw a brick of 22's on sale for under $10 (I said a long time ago) I'd buy one or two and store them in 45 cal metal ammo boxes, didn't care what brand it was as long as it was under $10, I'm still shooting them today and can't tell you when I bought the last brick it was that long ago, one regret I should have loaded up on those Federal Target.
BTW these old rounds don't have misfires yet last Thursday my shooting buddy was having his fair share of misfires.

Every time I go to our local "Mart" store, I buy a brick of 22 shells. could not tell you how many I have stashed away. If I never shoot them, they will make good trading stock someday.

Yes, I, too, have quite a few bricks of 22LR on the shelf-- 'Been putting a few aside for when I might really need some, for plinking with the nephews, training young shooters, or some serious squirrel plinking in the woods-- As a kid in the late 50's-early 60's, the ranch was over-run with big Grey Squirrels- they were really tough in the orchards, and the walnuts kept them very well fed. I was earning a bounty of 5 cents per tail, and I was buying a 50 round box of LR for 65 cents, or Longs for 55 or so. If I did my job and kept the hit percentage high, I could profit enough in a week or so to keep me in fishing tackle for the entire summer! What a wonderful youth I enjoyed! The 22LR was my constant companion, but it just wasn't up to the task on our really big Jack-Rabbits, but there was a Winchester 43 Hornet for them!
Today, there are a couple of 22LR bolt actions in the collection, with receiver sights, and 3 22LR revolvers- a S&W model 34 Kit Gun 4", a 6" Colt Police Positive Target, and a 6" Colt Officer's Model Match. All fine revolvers to be sure, but I'm still on the look for a K22.
At $20 a brick (500rds), 22LR is only 4cents a pop-- certainly a bargain by any means. It does start to get really pricey when you upgrade to the target stuff. I was looking at ordering some RWS or Eley ammo last week, and wow, did I get a case of sticker-shock! My last purchase of RWS target ammo was 20years ago, and I thought it was high then!
I pay what it takes to enjoy our great sport, and hope it doesn't get much higher.
The important thing is that we can still get our ammo--- RIGHT?

The crummy quality of many of the bulk-packed 22 LR ammo dissuades me from stocking it in any depth. I do drop $20-$30/month on CCI Mini-Mags, though--both solid and HP versions. This ammo shoots and runs very well in all my rimfires--isn't nearly as dirty or inconsistent as the bulk-boxed stuff--and is generally the most accurate ammunition in most of my rifles and handguns.

It isn't cheap--at all. $20 or so gets 300 rounds, and I can load gas-checked 25-20 and 32-20 rifle ammo for not a whole lot more. But rimfires need love, too--and I DETEST guns that won't run right, and spending a few cents more per round allows that to occur. So I grin and bear it.

Hi,
now i have the guns, need scope for rifle, & lots of ammo.
Got a 525 round brick of remington, and a 525-brick of federals. $32.10 out the door. But will need to buy 50 round boxes of common brands to find out which is most accurate in the guns.
But can not spend more for a bit.
