I am looking for some load data for loading .32 S&W Long Ctgs. I have 100 gr SWC .313 Dia plain base bullets by Missouri casting. I will be using them in Colt & S&W revolvers.

There are some real 32 Long aficionados here who have much more experience with this cartridge than I. I've recently shot some 93 grain boolits loaded with 2.4 grains of W231/HP38. I need to do some more experimenting, but these loads shot pretty well from my Ruger Single-Six.

Under a 100 gr jacketed bullet older Lyman manual shows 2.4 - 3 gr Bullseye and 3.5 - 4 gr Unique in the .32S&WL.

Not trying to answer a question with a question--but which Colt and S&W revolvers are we talking about? Model strengths and ages can make a difference in the cartridge's potential. E.g., I have a Colt Pocket Positive that dates from the early 20th Century, and I stick to 95-100 grain boolits at 700-725 FPS. Factory pressures, basically. A pre-war Police Positive or S&W Hand Ejector would safely enable 800-825 FPS with this boolit, perhaps a mite more. Postwar Colt D-frames and S&W I/J frames are good for 900 FPS. Larger-framed examples can absorb even further pressure--J&G Sales about 20 years ago had some NICE Colts (Officer's Model variants in 32 SWL) that could very safely run such boolits to 1000 FPS. Shoulda/woulda/coulda.......

Also--which powders do you have on hand? The 32 S&W Long is VERY easy to load, and dotes on mainstream fuels like WW-231, Bullseye, Unique, and Red Dot. And MANY others with fast or medium-fast burn rates. It is a lot like the 38 Special in that regard.

.313" boolits should work well in both revolver makes. Colts tend to run tighter dimensionally, grooves about .309"-.310" and throats near .311". S&W runs .313" grooves and .313"-.314" throats in my assemblage of 32 SWL, 32/20, and 32 Magnum rollerpistols.
