I had one of the original test molds for this bullet and it worked very nicely in a Marlin 1894Cl 25-20 as well as a circa 1902 Marlin 1894 in 25-20 !

It should be just the ticket for my .256 Marlin 62. I get real good accuracy with the little 257420 which actually weighs out at 74 grains from WW. I also got some mighty fine accuracy from the 85 grain RCBS with a gas check added and then the 257312 is also a good one. The 80 grain ought to fill the gap. I had real good results with the 35 caliber RD in a .35 Remington Marlin 336.

The Lyman 257420 worked well in my pair of 25-20's as did the Lyman 257312 !

Like you I had a Model 62 in 256 WIN MAG . But Even though I had dies etc I never loaded anything for the rifle or shot it before I sold it !

would this work in a 250-3000 savage?

If it works in .25-20, .256 Winchester and .257 Ackley, I'll bet it would work in the .250-3000. I'm just guessing since I don't own a .250-3000.

For that matter I haven't tried it in the .25's I have since it hasn't come in yet but if Lyman and RCBS bullets that flank this one in size work so well, I'm pretty sure it will work fine.

I used the Lyman 257312 in a 1893 Marlin that was chambered for the 25-36 Marlin cartridge and thats virtually the same thing as the 25-35 WIN . So the RD 258-80GC will work in both those cartridges as well .

My particular 250 Savage (1930-made 99) has the same twist rate as my Marlin 94CL in 25-20, 1-14". The Savage shoots #257420, #257312, and the RCBS-85-CB quite well. Don't know why this RD wouldn't do similar work.

Hi again Sav300.

I had a chance to go down and try out my mould tonite. After scrubbing it out with Dawn in hot water with an old electric toothbrush, I took it down to the garage and fired up old Pro-melt #2. (my $20 garage sale score after buying a refurbished one for $220 just a month before-oh well).

A couple casts later it started putting out these boolits. They weighed 85 grains with a check and came out of the mould at .260".

All the boolits in this picture shoot great out of the .256 Win. Marlin 62. A buddy of mine shoots the 85 gr. j-words out of his Winchester .25-20 and has great success.

If it wasn't raining I would go to the range tomorrow and try these out.

Anyhow, this mould is a real keeper.

Newtire,my 250-3000 has a 1-14 twist and does not handle the Lyman 257418 real good.
I am hoping this one works well.
Thanks for your input.

I bought a pair of moulds when I got the 92 Winny in 25/20 and I am sure one of them is a tumble loobe boolit. I will have to go have a look! Never got around to using them and they are buried downstairs somewhere.

I finally got up to the range as it has been raining steady here. Using 10 grains SR4759 in the .256 Win. Mag., I got 1" groups at 50 yds. They leave a nice little wadcutter looking hole in the target so should pack a pretty good punch. Now that I replaced the firing pin in that rifle (the other one was broken in half) those Mag Tech primers fired every one.
