Hello, I was wondering if there has been any high-speed photography of centerfire muzzles when firing gas-checked or plain-base bullets? Merril Martin did some work on the .22 L.R. for Precision Shooting Magazine a number of years back, & photo's clearly showed gas blow-by before bullet exit. This would prove once and for all if gas-checks really do check the gas.

Actually, it will not prove a thing. If the projectile is fully obturated at the tail, then there will be no gas escape to measure or see, check or no check. Common sense tells me that a projectile must be entirely square, and from the very beginning of ignition at that, for the projectile to fly true to form from rest to rest, inside and outside of the barrel. ... felix

This is in support to what you and Merril Martin have visualized, and is not in contrast. ... felix
