I went to a party where they cooked the turkey in a turkey cooker and peanut oil. Anyone else ever do this?
Sounds like it might harden my arteries but it sure tasted good.

We do it all the time

You can deep fry chickens , geese , ducks and pheasands also

Just make sure they are dry inside and out

Also do it outside , away from the house

Guys down the road burned down their gardge last New years day
Water inside the bird caused the oil to shoot out of the top of the pot and it caught fire

Beer might have been involved

I've tried it, tasty for sure, but when I tried to get rid of the used oil (before bio fuel) The local recycle program at the high school would not touch it, so I took it home poured used engine oil in each container shook it and then they took it because it looked like used motor oil.
One thing for sure make sure the turkey is super dry inside & out to prevent a major reaction.

I still do mine on the weber grill.

Best way to cook a Turkey, untill you smoke one :-)

krag35, I have always smoked them, but at 4min/lb it is mighty tempting lol, a tad quicker than the smoker.

I smoke them first for a couple of hours and then fry. Best of both worlds.

Absolutely the most delicious thing on the Thanksgiving menu or ANY menu! Just make sure you get a SMALL bird. Anything bigger than about 10-12lbs is somewhat hard to fit in the pot, and they also tend to burn on the outside without cooking the inside if they get too much bigger. Make sure you completely defrost the bird and remove any moisture (or chunks of ice) before submersion, do it outside on the driveway, have a fire extinguisher nearby (we've never needed one) and enjoy the tastiest bird imaginable. Skin like potato chips, dark meat like gravy, and white meat so moist... I need to go fry something!

Get a box of Morton Kosher salt and follow the Koshering directions for poultry and cook your preffered method.Do this the day before and let the bird assume room temp a few hours before cooking and dry thoroughly before cooking. My cousin "This is better than Sex"

After Barbie watched the video we decided just to cook it in the oven.

We are frying a turkey this Thanksgiving in peanut oil. But I think I will not use the firefighter method. The trick is to put water in the pot and the turkey to gauge the amount of oil to put in before you cook it.

The only way I cook a turkey anymore. Just don't use too much oil and lower the turkey in slow 350% oil and flame makes for a bad experiance.

The used peanut oil is very re-usable. Can be used for frying fish, chicken, or about anything else. Just cool and strain. Probably best to store in a refrigerator after first use.
