What-uh you think about a downloaded ranchdog 50-224 in a 223(or 222)?

I need a 22 magnum, but thought loading a 222 or 223 with a nice doses of 5744 at 1800ft/s or so would reach the same goal of being a squirel slayer, feed my interest to tinker and "force" me to buy a rifle which I currently dont have or really have a used for at full power.

I think you could make that work without a great deal of effort . I've been loading a two two three with fifty-five grain bullets and between three point six and four point six grains of Bullseye . Accuracy has been getting better with small changes from where I started . I suppose if I tried another powder it would work also , just haven't got that far yet .

That flat nose bullet he offers should do a good job at the velocity you mention .

Hodgdon lists some interesting loads for the 55 gr FMJ
That I hope to test this winter with the RanchDog Boolit

http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

55 GR. HDY FMJ IMR Trail Boss 4.0gr 1074 fps
55 GR. HDY FMJ Hodgdon Titegroup 3.1gr 1064 fps 4,000 CUP
55 GR. HDY FMJ Hodgdon Clays 3.2gr 1060 fps 3,700 CUP

These are close to what you were looking for

I believe if you do a online search for Steves Pages
He lists reduced loads with Blue Dot

225-415 or snappyer the 255-646 in the tripple duce. both are listed at 55 grains but lubed and GC the 646 weighs in at 60 grains and loaded at reduced Rx7 makes starlings into puff balls. the 415 and Green Dot will roll a squrriel out of a tall hickory with out to much meat dammage, well if you go for head shots. The old 700 VS gets heavy now though.

I bought a triple duce just for this reason the other day ....... so I am all ears!!

I pine for a reasonably priced .25-20 but they are going upscale on prices lately for this purpose ...... and for a while, I pined for a .25-222 Copperhead ....

......... all should be boolit friendly but not on the pocket book when you factor in gunsmith charges.

I think the only way I will find the 25-20 I want will involve a barrel and a gunsmith.

6gr of unique and a 45gr Jword gets about 22 mag vel out of a 223. :)

I'd try that with the RD boolit an see what you get.
