hello has anyone tried those chamber inserts that they sell for rifles where you can shoot a reduced cartridge? In this case a 32 long in a mosin rifle or a 308 in a 30/06? Is this worth the time to try or are they a P.I.T.A.? thanks for your time

I had one for 7.7 JAP and I quickly decided that reloading was better overall.

+1 on reloading is better. I found that they did not shoot well in the 308 I tried it in and that reloaded cast bullets right in the 308 shell with a 115 gr cast bullt and 6 gr of Red Dot would shoot rings around the 32 spl and took just about as long to reload. Cost was also pretty much a wash too.

Yep. They have worked fine in my guns, but aren't that practical if you cast and reload. I have used a .308 adaptor in my 30-06 and it's neat, but only really useful in a worst case scenario. Also have a .32 S&W Long adaptor for my MN 91/30. Same thing, after the novelty wears off what good is it? 25 yd. accuracy was good with the MN. The .308 shot normal in the '06.

Never tried the adapter but if you are looking for very light loads you can load 32 pistol boolits or even round balls. I use 5-6 grs of Red Dot or Trail Boss and it shoots like a 22 at about 25 yds.

I was not impressed with the inserts either. I load wimp loads in normal cases or lately I have been filling a case with WW alloy then drilling a hole the size of whatever caliber down to the flash hole making a reduced capacity case. I get much less spread this way and use less powder for same performance. You can make some very light loads this way or turn your 06 into an accurate 32-20ish gun.
