View Full Version : Is anyone using the RD190 grain bullet in a .358 Win?

I'm trying to get a bullet mold that will shoot well in 3 different cartridges.

I have a 4" GP100 that I'd like to get a heavy bullet mold for.
I have a 14" TC in .357 Max that would seem to do at least OK with this mold.
I also have a 14" TC in .358 Win and a Ruger M77 in .358 Win.

Some of the load data on the Ranch Dog site looks crazy to someone that's never shot 35 caliber lead booits. 2200-2400fps with this bullet with a lever action .356 Win leads me to believe this bullet will work fine in my .358's. Heck 1800-2000fps would be fine for what i'm looking to do with it.

So has anyone here played around with this mold?

Would any of you guys recommend something else that would better fill my criteria?

Would the Lyman 195 or RCBS 200 better suit my needs?

Thanks for the input. :)

I use it in the .357 Rossi carbine and my 760 Remingtin pump in 35 Rem.
If I had a .358 Winchester it would be my favorite boolit in that too.
That boolit is too long in the nose for some .357 revolvers but I think I tried it in the Ruger GP 100 and it works. Ought to work fine in any .358 Winchester.
Lotsa stomp.

I am using that boolit in my 358 to very good effect. Loaded over 4198 and COW filler, it works well without the gas check to 1800 fps. Just using 3031 and the gascheck it's good to 2200 fps, and paper patched over a compressed droptubed load of 3031 it'll do 2650 with good accuracy.

Keep up the notes! I just conducted a deal for a 358Win barrel from a fellow in Texas for one of my Mausers. Looking forward to the new caliber once I get back to the States.

I got the mold in yesterday. My intent is to make some boolits with it tomorrow and make a few sample (.358 Winchester) rounds to try for the next range trip.

My go to load for Elk is 42 grains of H322 with the Nosler 225 BT.

I'd like to make a non-gas check plinker that runs 1600ish and another load using the gas checks around 2000fps.

I have access to many powders which may or may not be appropriate for this combo. Some of the powders I have include H4198, H322, Alliant 2400, Ramshot Tac.

Anyone want to share their starting load data with me? PM me if you don't want to share with the masses. :)

Thanks for your time.

Edited to add: I also have Alliant RL#7, which might, from the looks of my reloading manuals, fill the bill here.
