Does anyone have any experience with the Pedersoli 1885 45-70 rifle? If so, how does it shoot and what size bullet do you use?

TGM:
You will need to slug the bore to get the proper bore diameter. After that, get some proper
sized boolits and start loadin.
I have the Uberti 1885, but I believe that the Pedersoli has the Badger barrel.
Someone will be along before too long and coroberate that.

I'm not sure which rifle the 1885 is. I have a Pedersoli Rolling block in 45-70, I'v had this rifle for about a year and a half. I use a 500 gr. Lee long tappered nose boolit, kind of like a spire point, sized to .458. It shoots very good. At a 100 yards I shot 15 shots into less than 3". I shoot at the cowboy long range shoot and do ok at 535 yards. I average about 4 or 5 hits out of 10. I don't shoot as well as I used to. I'll be 70 on my next birthday. I can still see real well but I can't hold the rifle as steady as I used to. I am quite sure this rifle will shoot far better than I can do.

It finally came to me, that you have a Winchester 1885. I belive Pedersoli uses the same barrels on the Rolling block, Sharps and 1885. My barrel slugs at .457, which is pretty much standard for all their 45-70's.

Not even close. Pedersoli has some new 22 caliber Sharps rifles out which have Lothar Walther barrels...most likely because Pedersoli doesn't make .22 barrels.

But their centerfire guns are all equipped with their own Pedersoli barrels...which are easily the equal of Badger.

I'm not sure which rifle the 1885 is.
The 1885 is the Winchester falling block singleshot...usually called the hiwall (or lowall)...and reproductions of them.

TGM, here are the dimensions of the match grade 45-70 barrel that Dick Trenk sent me ...

Following is dimensions from our chamber reamer blueprint for 45-70 caliber. These are the nominal dimensions given to each rifle, with a mfr. tolerance of unspecified fore and aft change due to the obvious differences in how far the reamer is actually moved into each barrel. I would guess we control reamer depth by +.003" and -.000" .
Rim Dia. .618"
Rim width .070 (depth of rim seat)
Case dia at rim base .508
Case length 2.129 (includes .070 rim thickness)
Length of 45 deg angle .060
Diameter at rear of throat (at 45 deg angle) .4598
Length of throat .236
Diameter of throat at front .4578
Leade angle 1 deg. 30 min
Bore dia, .4500"
Groove dia .4580"

Here is the actual numbers on my Pedersoli Sharps:
0.452 – Bore diameter
0.458 – Groove diameter

I shoot various bullets that are groove diameter and up to 460 using black powder. If you plan to shoot smokeless, use groove diameter bullets

I have seen the Pedersoli high wall and handled it in a store. They are nice rifles however the cost is high too and as far as I am concerned I would buy a C Sharps made high wall first even if it cost a couple hundred more than the Pedersoli. Not that I have anything against Pedersoli's as I own three rifles from that manufacturer and one Musket also. They shoot good too but if the price is close to what I can buy a US made gun I will always buy the US made gun.

After shooting Sharps models in chamberings from 40/65 to 50/90 for the past 15 years, I now own a Pedersoli Hiwall in 38/55 called their Classic or Target model with a stiff 30inch x 1:12 twist barrel.

Using a Paul Jones 38001 (374gn with 1:30 mix) and 50gn Swiss 3F this rifle would have to be the easiest BPCR I've used. Accuracy is surpurb out to 600yds (the longest I've shot so far) with boolits perfectly stabilised and no evidence of instability on paper at that distance.

I have no doubt the C.Sharps would be of better quality but Pedersoli is on a sure winner with these fast twist "small bores":Fire:
