I have a custom commander on the way sometime soon from Bob Serva at Fusion.

I am interested in the Mihec H&G68 clone that's available right now, but wondering if .454 is the right diameter.

I will email Bob Serva and ask him too, but does anyone around here have experience with his guns, or any other relevant comments? Perhaps I have to wait to slug the barrel?

I have that mold and size to .452 for all 1911 and it works out great. I can shoot them at .454 in thin brass but I prefer some tolerance in the 1911 chamber. Darn nice shooting(and casting) boolit!

bcr,

I think that it's safe to say that the Mihec H&G 68 clone will be just fine for your Fusion custom. The .454 boolits that the mold drops will give you some room to work with. You can size them down to the typical .452 diameter if need be.

Congratulations on the custom from Fusion. I hear that they're GREAT guns.

I'm not sure what you mean by correct ? .454 is what the mold cast at (bullets drop out )
Not many 45 ACP that I have seen slug at .453--not to say it's not possible.
But most are .451 so a common size is .452--.453and we achieve that by sizing the bullet in a lubra sizer while at the same time the lube is applied.
Lee tumble lube bullets that are meant to be shot as cast are a little different in that the lube groves are very thin and do not offer the resistance going down the bore that a conventional bullet would. This enables them to be shot a little bigger.
I think I got most of that correct.
What I am going to do for my new pistol is slug the bore and then size one or 1 1/2 thou.
over bore diameter. Or you could just try .452 and if it reacts like it's a little small ( leading )
You could always open the die a 1/2 or one whole thou.
OR you could just call the folks that are building your pistol and ask them what the bore will be.
I hope I said that in a way that was understandable for you.

All my 1911s do just fine with .452 boolits. My XD won't digest semi wad cutters but that is a whole different kettle of fish. I'd wait til I had the pistol and slug the barrel.

Slug the barrel. All else is just noise. Size to groove diam or groove +.001 and you should
be in good shape. While the .45 ACP pistols as a group tend to have less variation than
many other calibers, and the great majority do fine with .452 diameter, this means absolutely
nothing about a particular barrel.

Just because size 10 is one of the most common shoe sizes does not mean you should just
get some and wear them. Pays to measure the correct size.

Didn't Bob Serva buy Dan Wesson then sell it to CZ after he started making 1911's under the Dan Wesson banner?

Yes, Mr. Serva was formerly with Dan Wesson.

He replied to my inquiry that I should expect the barrel to be .4515, so I guess .454 will do and size them to .452 or .453?

Thanks guys!

Sizing down to .452" should be just fine.
