What a great mold!
All bullets measure .359 exactly. Lubed weight with my 50-50 alloy is 130gr. I got this mold .359 so I can use it for 9mm and 357Mag/38spcl. After it gets heated up, and you give it a dose of bullplate, it drops bullets without even having to tap the hinge of the handles, just turn it upside down, shake it enough to get the cramer pins to slide through the block half, and the boolits drop right off. All of mine are air cooled.

Mihec REALLY knows his way around a CNC machine.

Awwwww Trey ..... that beautiful bullet at least deserved a clean case. :-) My mold drops some really nice bullets also. Have some loaded in 38 Spl cases for a trip to the range tomorrow.

I guess I could have tumbled it, it's a bad case anyhow, I save bad cases to make dummies with. Let us know about your range results with the 38.

Good looking boolits. I can't wait until I have a chance to use my mold. Trey when you say your alloy is 50/50. What are you mixing (clip/stick weights)? I was thinking of trying clip weights with enough extra tin to bring the mix up to 1-2%.

Buyo, exactly right, I'm using 50% clip on ww ingots and 50% stick on ww ingots, and no added tin for sweetener. Just straight wheel weights.

Thanks for the reply Trey. How fast can you push them with your 50/50 alloy?

I'm planning on running this for my USPSA loads. I'll be running minor PF mostly (goal is 1000-1100 fps) but want to try to make major PF (1300+ fps) too if I decide to build a race gun.

Here is the Mihec 126ish gr round pin hollow point out of my Ruger Blackhawk at 15yd with a charge of 3.5gr of Bullseye. Excellent shooter and with the HP it would HAVE to be devastating on game.

And here is the same boolit loaded with 3gr of Clays at 25yds and braced.

These are all loaded as 38SPL.. Mixed brass and Wolf SPP.

Nice shooting Doby. These cast with the ww+tin alloy you mentioned in the original thread?

They sure are. I have little tin ingots, maybe 4-6oz a piece, and I will drop two of those in with a full pot of WW. Makes EXCELLENT boolits. I added the tin for the hollowpoints in hopes of helping them retain their weight on impact. I will not know if that works or not until I get up to my gandmas around Thanksgiving. There I can shoot the snot out of soaked phone books.

These bullets shoot really well. Expansion is teriffic. Many of the bullets I recovered from 25 yards were just the base with a little lead hanging over the edge. I'm going to try a lighter load and see if they will hold together a little better. I was shooting them around 1100 fps and I'm not going to mention the load as it was pretty stout. I think these bullets will easily expand at 900 fps with my alloy of 50% ww and 50% range scrap.

2% tin will hold them together better.

Good Lookin Boolits !!!!

Looking forward to a range report with penetration results !!!

I just got a chance to fire up my setup for the first time and gave my Mihec mold a try. :bigsmyl2: I melted 6 lb or so of WW and preheated the mold. I had the pot running in the 750-800 degrees range. Ended up with a total of 18 boolits that filled the nose out completely.

The next go around, I'll try adding some tin to bring the alloy up to as much as 2%, and then switch to the round pins if that doesn't workout. I was also getting a lot of wrinkles on the bodies that seemed to come and go. I think I was getting a little sprue lube in the cavities when I re-lubed the pins and sprue plate.

Also, I was wondering where all you lube on the mold? I lubed the sprue plate bolt, underside of the sprue plate, and shafts of the HP pins. I forgot to lube the alignment pins, but will make sure to next time.

On the bright side, the penta-pin that was a tight fit loosened up some, and I was able to push it in and out by hand.

Any suggestions/advice are always appreciated.

Jeremy

Much better results today. Mixed up 20lb of alloy with 1% tin content using COWWs and 50/50 solder. This pretty much took care of my fill out problems. I cast for a couple of hours and ended up with 168 good boolits, 28 maybes, and 49 bad ones. Also, a pot temperature around 780 degrees worked well for the rhythm I got into. Below about 770 degrees, the boolits would start sticking to the pins and require a bit of a tap or shake to release.
